Here in Wakefield, our vision is Families Together.  That means services that are of the highest quality, delivered in partnership, and targeted based on local need.

To make this happen, we’re developing a locality delivery model that takes decision-making closer to the families and communities that rely on us. Working at the heart of this model, our Service Manager - Alternative Provision will ensure we deliver the very best for young learners who need extra support.

Your challenge will be to shape and deliver Wakefield’s strategy for alternative provision – leading our new inclusion panels and bringing together key partners to plan and deliver alternative learning pathways.

You’ll help us focus the conversation on young peoples’ specific needs and the pathways that best meet those needs. Working in partnership, you’ll support us to forge a proactive approach, with a clear plan for what happens next – whether that’s a route back to mainstream education, or to other specialist provision.

To be successful, you’ll need the political acumen and professional credibility to engage with all partners – from the local authority and our alternative provision teams, to schools, academies and colleges – as well as the young people themselves.

We’re looking for someone who can influence at the highest level.

Whatever your career background, you’ll demonstrate the knowledge and leadership skills to understand the technical aspects of the alternative provision agenda and be able to translate that into action on the ground. It’s likely that you’ll have gained significant experience within a local authority or school-based role.

Here in Wakefield, we’re confident you’ll feel supported and find experienced colleagues ready to support you every step of the way – so we hope you’ll seize the opportunity to shape our future and the futures of the young people we serve.
