Job overview

Here at South Thames College, we are looking to create a bank of Sessional Tutors in Maths to deliver high impact numeracy support to adults who have not yet achieved a Maths qualification at Level 2 or above.

You will work with adults across a variety of curriculum contexts (those attending College programmes which currently offer no numeracy, those requiring preparatory support before joining programmes, and those who would benefit from focus on particular skills to support progress with current Maths classes) to identify and then bridge skills and knowledge gaps. As the project matures, we will look to work more closely with local employers with a view to providing vocationally specific numeracy support in the workplace and other key local stakeholders, so that numeracy classes can be taken into South West London communities.

So, if you are looking to gain and build transferable skills into your portfolio, work with highly skilled professionals, and make a difference to the lives and opportunities of the adults we work with in South West London, then we want to hear from you!

This is the perfect role for either newly qualified graduates or experienced professionals looking for flexible work opportunities to complement other lifestyle commitments. All that we ask is that you hold a degree or relevant professional qualification (in an appropriate subject), have excellent knowledge and skills in Maths and can support and motivate learners, including monitoring their progress. You will have high personal standards and expectations as well as energy, enthusiasm and passion for the subject and education.

This support is funded by the Government’s new ‘Multiply’ project – an initiative designed to raise the numeracy levels within England’s adult population and so provide a broader access to economic opportunity. It’s part of the ‘Levelling-Up’ agenda. We will negotiate a set timetable to suit your availability and our business need with hours primarily available term time and during the day. We will also equip you with teaching and learning materials and support throughout.

Closing date for the return of a complete online application is 22nd August 2022
