Dixons McMillan Academy opened in September 2014, we are incredibly proud of our scholars who do what it takes for as long as it takes to be successful.

Our academy will build to its full capacity of 720 students from Year 7 to 13 over the next 12 months, providing an exciting and unique opportunity to work with a talented team in building an outstanding school from its foundation.

We  have  very  high  expectations  of  staff,  but  we  value  them highly. We invest heavily in staff development and a growing school will offer many career opportunities in the coming years.

We currently have an exciting opportunity for the right candidate in the role of site assistant.  The safeguarding of our students is of paramount importance.

We require a practical, flexible and well-motivated individual to take on the role of Site Assistant across two of the Dixons sites based on Trinity Road.  You will be hardworking, reliable, well-and able to use your own initiative.  You will also have excellent practical/DIY skills, as well as an awareness of health and safety considerations.

You will be part of a team of three reporting to the Site Manager and will be required to work on a rotational basis.  Your main duties will involve; general maintenance and minor repair work such as fixing doors, windows, toilet seats and flushes, furniture, tap washers and some painting of doors and walls.  Other duties will include grounds maintenance, picking up litter and being responsible for the removal of all debris from paths, play areas, grassed areas, flowerbeds and all entrances.  You will be expected to empty internal communal rubbish bins daily and work with students on recycling initiatives.  You will also be required to undertake the duty of traffic controller at either the start or end of the school day, ensuring that students arrive/leave safely and that traffic/parked cars are not causing any obstructions or hazards to pedestrians.

Experience in a similar role would be beneficial and someone with a joinery/painting and decorating background would be preferred.  Familiarity of using mechanical cleaning equipment and power tools is desirable, as is knowledge of health and safety in the workplace.

At Dixons we have very high expectations of staff, but we value them highly.  We invest heavily in staff development and these growing schools will offer many career opportunities in the coming years.

Above all, we are looking for someone who is fully committed to the vision and ethos of the Dixons group of academies; someone who can contribute fully to a can-do culture and a continuous drive for improvement; and someone who has at their heart the happiness, well-being, self-esteem and progress of everyone at the school. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  Successful applicants will need to undertake a DBS enhanced check.

More information about the post and a downloadable application form can be found on our website: http://www.dixonsma.com/index.php/vacancies.

We would ask that all applicants arrange a visit prior to applying.  Please contact Mrs K Metcalf on 01274 424350.

Closing date for applications: Friday 1st December 2017 at 15:00.

A note from the Principal

As the Principal of Dixons McMillan Academy, my vision is that our school is a place where everyone feels welcome, and everyone succeeds. All of our students should receive opportunities that equip them to contribute positively to their community and the wider world, and our mission is to provide a stellar educational experience that promotes cultural capital and enrichment experiences – but at the same time, is underpinned with academic rigour and excellence. To achieve our goals, we uphold our three core values of resilience, integrity and courtesy and use our drivers of mastery, autonomy and purpose to propel us forwards.

At Dixons McMillan, staff and students live by our three core values every day. By resilience we mean that we work really, really hard and we never give up. We have a can-do attitude, and when we find things difficult we work together (as a team) to find a solution. When we refer to integrity, we mean that we are good people. We do the right thing, because it’s the right thing to do. We make decisions for the good of everyone. We are honest and have strong moral principles. And finally, when we talk about courtesy, we pride ourselves in welcoming anyone warmly to our school community – be it a visitor, a new student, or a staff member. We always have good manners and we are kind, thoughtful and polite.

Through demonstrating these three core values consistently, we ensure that students can learn and staff can teach – and ultimately, our focus on success is relentless.
