Overview:
We are seeking a cheerful individual to help us ensure high standards of maintenance and general repair of all equipment, furniture and premises.
Established more that 300 years ago, Perins School is very proud of its history and its role within the local community. It was built on its current site in 1910. We are fortunate at Perins and have a large site to accommodate all the extra curricular activities that our students take part in. The school has developed and grown significantly over the years, with the newest additions being the Hall extension – ‘Perins Café’ and the Maths block ‘Turing’ at the far end of the school. We have 7 main blocks for classrooms, a large sports hall, and office buildings – all of which range in age and style, and two Patchwork Nursery buildings for our Day nursery and preschool. Site staff mainly work shifts and are located in ‘The Lodge’ when they are not working around the site. The Lodge is one of the oldest parts of the school – but has been recently refurbished with new kitchen and toilet facilities for the site team.
We have a wide choice of sports and leisure venues, classrooms, workshops and meeting space all available to hire to the community.
Our site team ensure that the high standards of general repair of all equipment, furniture and premises is maintained, and carry out routine tasks as well as tasks directed by the Assistant Business Manager and the Senior Caretaker.
Key Responsibilities
To carry out daily cleaning and custodial duties to a high standard in any part of the school. This will include: toilets, changing rooms, corridors, staircases, grounds, building externals and any other area requested by the Senior Caretaker or the Assistant Business Manager
To open the site and prepare for the school day
To respond to radio/ telephone calls and act as the main point of contact for the estates when onsite
To form part of the Estates team, playing a role in covering weekend shifts according to a rota
To take direction from the Senior Caretaker to support routine estates maintenance tasks
To ensure that soap, toilet roll, paper towels and other consumables are checked daily and replenished as required to ensure a continuous supply
To remove or cover graffiti when seen or reported
To litter pick around the grounds and to empty communal outside bins in appropriate waste To report any maintenance issues to the Senior Caretaker
To be aware of all Heath and Safety and COSHH regulations and to report any issues relating to these to the Assistant Business Manager or Senior Caretaker
To take part in the annual Performance and Planning review process
To attend meetings and training as necessary
To maintain good levels of communication by use of walkie-talkie radios and site telephone
To maintain an inventory of cleaning and consumable supplies to ensure an adequate supply to meet the schools needs
To be aware of safeguarding requirements and manage duties/ responsibilities in accordance
Undertake regular training as required
Any other reasonable request from your line manager of the Headteacher
Attend departmental meetings and other meetings as required.
Take part in performance management reviews.
Person Specification
Desirable
Some knowledge of Health and Safety regulations and good practices and how they apply in a school environment
Experience of working with a ‘trade’ environment
Experience of undertaking a range of caretaking and cleaning duties
Experience of security – locking up procedures and alarms
Experience working in a team
Experience of keeping records
Working in a school environment would be advantageous
Qualifications, skills and abilities:
Whilst no qualifications are essential, the individual must have a standard of reading, writing and numeracy sufficient to carry out the post.
Some heavy lifting required
The ability to work effectively and supportively as a member of the school team
The ability to identify work priorities
The ability to act on own initiative and able to deal with unexpected problems that may arise
Demonstration of good interpersonal skills and able to project a good image of the school – the ability to get along with a wide variety of people
Basic IT skills
The ability to remain calm
Enthusiastic approach and a good sense of humour
Willingness to work alone at times, and if required to work longer hours to cover site team holiday or community bookings

Perins School, located in Hampshire, is a coeducational secondary school. It currently educates around 1,155 pupils aged between 11 and 16. It is a non-denominational establishment. It was founded in 1698 and gained academy status in August 2011, and in 2017 The Perins Multi Academy Trust was founded, consisting of Perins School and Sun Hill Junior School.

Perins was last inspected during a one day ‘Section 8’ (short) inspection on the 31st January 2017, where the school retained it’s ‘good’ rating praising the high quality teaching and leadership and outstanding student body.
