Are you a proactive, experienced site manager looking to take the lead in maintaining a large, dynamic secondary school environment?

We are seeking a committed and motivated Site Manager to oversee and ensure the smooth, safe, and efficient management of our school site. This is a key role, responsible not only for the day-to-day operation of our premises but also for driving high standards of health and safety, maintenance, and energy/resource management.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Management

  • Lead and manage the site team and contractors (including contract cleaners).
  • Ensure effective supervision and delegation of tasks to maximise productivity.
  • Review performance regularly, providing training and support to develop staff.

Premises & Maintenance

  • Oversee the general upkeep, maintenance, and repair of the school buildings and grounds.
  • Manage contractors and services, ensuring all work is delivered to a high standard, on time and within budget.
  • Maintain accurate records, logs, and reports for all site-related activities.

Health, Safety & Security

  • Take a lead role in ensuring the school meets all legal and school policy requirements for health, safety, and environmental compliance.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments and maintain robust systems for reporting breaches.
  • Manage site security throughout the school day and oversee locking/unlocking procedures.

Organisational Effectiveness

  • Promote and support the school’s ethos, values, and safeguarding responsibilities.
  • Operate within the school’s systems, procedures, and resource constraints.
  • Ensure all site operations are carried out lawfully, ethically, and professionally.

Resource & Energy Management

  • Act as budget holder for areas such as maintenance, H&S, and facilities.
  • Monitor and reduce energy consumption, promote recycling, and develop sustainable resource strategies.
  • Identify and implement improvements to the school’s energy efficiency and environmental impact.

Professional Relationships

  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with staff, students, governors, parents, and external contractors.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally, resolving any site-related concerns or conflicts with confidence and care.

Person Specification

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has strong experience in premises/site management (preferably in a school or similar setting).
  • Is knowledgeable about health and safety legislation and facilities management.
  • Is an excellent organiser and problem-solver.
  • Has good leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrates a proactive, hands-on approach and a commitment to high standards.
