Job overview

The Martin Bacon Academy is a brand new, state of the art, Area Special School, currently being built in the heart of the Northstowe Learning Community. When open, the school will cater for children and young people aged 3 to 19 who have a range of complex and significant learning needs in the area of cognition and learning (with other co-occurring conditions). This covers a wide range of needs including learners with autistic spectrum condition and those with complex physical and sensory impairments. The school will have places for 110 children and young people

This is an exciting time for the school to open as a brand new Specialist Provision and forge links with our new community. This will provide opportunities to build on the strengths and experiences of the community in collaboration with other schools within Cambridge Meridian Academies Trust (CMAT) but especially the Northstowe Secondary College with whom Martin Bacon Academy will share a school site.

The Academy is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic candidate with a ‘can do’ attitude to fulfil the role of a Site Officer to start late March / April 2020. This important role within the school ensures the security, care and availability of the building, furniture, fittings and equipment to guarantee the staff and pupils have a satisfactory physical environment. The Site Officer will carry out maintenance and repairs to the building, furniture and equipment within the scope of a competent handy person. There will be an emphasis on the provision of cleaning and working alongside the cleaning contractors employed by the school.

You will be educated up to GCSE level or equivalent desirably with a site management qualification although this is not essential. You will have knowledge of maintaining a large public building along with knowledge of managing and operating a fire and security system. You will be prepared to work flexibly (occasional weekends and evenings) along with a full driving licence and access to your own vehicle. Ideally you will possess a plumbing, carpentry or electrical qualification although this is not essential. Knowledge of Health and Safety would also be highly desirable but not essential.

Cambridge Meridian Academies Trust and Martin Bacon Academy are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share in this commitment.

The Trust is committed to safer recruitment practice and pre-employment checks will be undertaken before any appointment is confirmed. This post is subject to an enhanced disclosure and barring service check. We expect all adults who work for the Trust to share our commitment to safeguarding and the health and wellbeing of our students.
