The role

We are looking to appoint a dedicated and talented Sixth Form Learning Mentor to work with our fantastic sixth form team and students.  The successful candidate will be dedicated to promoting and supporting academic achievement of the sixth formers that they mentor, primarily through building effective relationships and careful understanding of their individual needs.  In addition to providing timetabled support, our new sixth form mentor will also work with SEN students - some of whom have an autism diagnosis - in supporting their education. 

The role can be a great opportunity for career development - especially for those who are consider a longer term career working within an educational setting.  Our sixth form provision is an ever growing provision within the academy and we are looking to add to this fantastic resource with a dedicated learning mentor who can provided targeted support to our young adults as they transition through their higher education.

Our SEN provision is an incredibly valued part of our staff body.  We know how much our students benefit from the one-to-one support our staff provide them, both in and outside of the classroom.   For some students, the bonds they form with their key workers is crucial to their educational and emotional development and in some cases, can make a real difference to the experience they have here at KAA.

This role offers you the chance to work creatively with staff and students to focus specifically on the context you will have, given your close bonds with these students.  You will have the opportunity to get involved in many enrichments and wider-school activities, all of which are designed to expand our student’s education far wider than what they learn in the classroom.

There is extensive training at KAA for our mentoring team and you will get the chance to work closely with our sixth form specialists regarding strategic approaches to the students that you mentor.

At KAA we have a proud tradition of developing and investing in our staff. This role offers the opportunity to gain valuable experience in schools, and previous learning mentors have gone on to train as  teachers and  have secured other exciting roles in SEN.  

The role is being offered on a term-time contract (39 weeks).
