Job overview

Our invitation:

The London Oratory School invites you to apply for the post of Sixth Form Study Supervisor. Trad, but quirky, The London Oratory is amongst the city’s most prestigious Catholic schools. Educating boys from 7 to 18, with girls in the sixth form, it puts a strong emphasis on music and languages, all as part of a broad, liberal arts curriculum – but that’s not all, so do please visit our website for a fuller flavour: www.london-oratory.org! The School enjoys a highly competitive salary scale to recognise and reward the very committed body of staff that make up its Common Room.

Your gifts:

The Sixth Form Study Supervisor is responsible for the management of St Philip’s Library at the Heart of our school for Sixth-Form pupils’ private study. They should be able to maintain a quiet and calm atmosphere conducive to learning. St Philip’s Library is used by Sixth Form pupils throughout the day, which means supervision of Sixth Form pupils and working closely with the staff responsible for them are an important part of the Sixth Form Study Supervisor’s duties. Other duties may include managing book stock through our electronic systems and assisting pupils in the selection of books.

The school is looking to appoint a part-time Sixth Form Study Supervisor working 22.5 hours per week across five days during term time only. The working hours are from 8.30am to 1pm, from September 2023.

The ideal candidate should have a good working knowledge of ICT and to be familiar with appropriate computing and IT procedures, including word processing (Word) and spreadsheets (Excel), databases and use of the Internet, and to keep up-to-date with developments in these areas.

The post is initially for one year, with the possibility of it being extended. Ideally, the successful candidate might have experience of school teaching, possibly being a retired teacher or someone who has taken a break from teaching.

The net salary for the part-time position is on a salary range between £13,000 and £15,000 per annum, including holiday pay, to be paid into the employee’s bank account in twelve equal payments on the last working day of each month. The full time equivalent is between £20,000 to £25,000.

Our School:

In addition to first class, tasteful facilities (including on-site parking, a gym and swimming pool) and a highly competitive salary package, here are five reasons as to why you might consider working with us:

1. Our vision: A compelling vision of what a distinctively Catholic education should look like, open to the world and fitting pupils to move through it with panache and confidence;

2. Our pupils: Well-disciplined, switched on, cosmopolitan - and quirky - supported in their growth by skilled staff and a tightly structured pastoral system;

3. Our staff: An intellectually lively and collegial Common Room culture, that supports you in your growth as a subject and pedagogical expert;

4. Our priority: A highly supportive and collegial atmosphere at all levels that values and recognises the great work that teachers do, and the challenges and sacrifices they make to do it. In addition to daily freshly brewed coffee, we also offer full access to staff medical and counselling services, should these be required;

5. Your future: An innovative staff development programme that looks to support you in growing in your vocation, in a school that is keen to think through the implications of cutting edge pedagogical research and development, within a rich philosophical and spiritual heritage.

Your next steps:

Interested applicants should complete an application form which, along with further details, can be found on the school website here. Application forms should be submitted in the online application form by 5pm on Sunday 4 June.

Applications will be considered as they are submitted, and they School reserves the right to interview suitable applicants before the deadline.

The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service. We are an equal opportunities employer.
