Salary: £13.14ph - £14.34ph (£10,932.80 - £11,931.20 per year)

Hours: (16 Hours per week) 9.30am-5pm 2 days a week.   

Rated CQC Outstanding Aurora Orchard Manor is looking to recruit a Skills Tutor for our young people.

Set within 14 acres, Orchard Manor offers a supportive living and learning environment for young adults with severe and profound learning difficulties and complex health needs. With specialist facilities and a focus on promoting independence, we support each of our young people through the transition from education into adulthood with a focus on person-centred programmes to promote independence.

The Role:

The primary role of a Skills Tutor is to provide challenging and interesting learning programmes and opportunities for people living at Orchard Manor, who have a learning, physical, emotional or associated disability.

To achieve this, you will have responsibility to assess young people, identify short, medium and long term aims, objectives and aspirations and organise activities to enable the young person to achieve these outcomes.

You will need to develop schemes of work and session plans with individual aims and objectives, identifying external accreditation and supporting achievement, where appropriate. You will monitor progress, submitting timely reports to record achievements.

You will also have key responsibilities for transition planning for the young people coming to live at, moving residence within, or leaving Orchard Manor. You will work with the Therapy & Residential Team to research, plan, and co-ordinate transition, overseeing individual transition plans. You will work as part of the multi-disciplinary team providing reports and information about transition plans for individuals and updating actions plans as appropriate.

  • Ensure that the people who use our services are at the heart of everything we do.
  • Ensure the individuals have personalised development plans that meet their needs, aspirations and agreed outcomes. 
  • Ensure that the individuals have personalised transition plans that meet their needs, aspirations and agreed outcomes
  • Ensure effective communication, recording and reviewing of individual plans with the person and their representatives and relevant professionals where appropriate.
  • Keep accurate records, carrying out all recording and reporting in a person centred and factual manner.

Relationships

  • Support people who use our services to be as active as they want to be in their local community, encouraging them to try new things and doing the things they really want to do.
  • To work effectively with people that may display challenging behaviour, ensuring the safety of the person, yourself and others. To comply with instructions and advice received through training and from behaviour plans to support people with complex communication and behaviour
  • Together with people who use our services, regularly review and update support plans, ensuring they are centred on their needs and aspirations.
  • Report on people’s development, attending or chairing reviews and ensuring that any actions are carried out in a timely manner.


Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Teaching or training qualification
  • Level 3 qualification in Health or Social Care or equivalent
  • Previous experience working with young adults with complex physical and learning difficulties
  • Ability to accurately keep written and electronic records
  • Able to judge and write meaningful outcomes in consultation with young people with learning difficulties
  • Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate learning programmes

Desirable Skills and Qualifications:

  • PTLLS or equivalent
  • Relevant professional qualification
  • Experience in a similar role, either within education or day services
  • Familiarity with residential and/or educational settings
  • Working within a Multi-Disciplinary Team
  • Specialist knowledge and skills in topics related to the needs of the Service Users
  • Ability and confidence to drive the site vehicles and transport young people
