Are you an exceptional, committed and reflective classroom practitioner passionate about improving outcomes for pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and complex needs?
The Role:
You will be a key part of our teaching team, responsible for:
- Delivering creative, well-planned lessons tailored to the needs of students with ASD and complex learning needs.
- Creating a calm, safe, and engaging classroom environment where all students are supported to thrive.
- Leading a team of teaching assistants and working closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure holistic support for every learner.
- Building strong relationships with families to foster communication and consistency between home and school.
- Writing high-quality annual reviews and reports for Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
- Leading on curriculum planning and continuous development within your subject specialism (where applicable).
We’re Looking For:
- A qualified teacher (QTS) with experience of working in SEN settings, particularly with learners with ASD.
- A professional committed to positive behaviour support, inclusive education, and equity in learning.
- Someone who can effectively manage and motivate classroom teams.
- A reflective practitioner who embraces collaboration, creativity, and continuous improvement.
- A great communicator with strong planning, organisational and written skills.

Heron Academy is located in Lambeth and supports around 80 11-18-year-olds with a range of special needs, including ASD and severe and profound multiple learning difficulties.
Formerly known as The Michael Tippett School, Heron Academy is on a journey of rapid improvement, ensuring that every child and young person is supported to achieve their full potential.
A new Head Teacher and Senior Leadership Team have been put in place, together with the introduction of a new uniform and a range of improvements made to the building and learning environment.
Each pupil has a personalised curriculum to meet their unique needs and to help them meet their individual targets. Our specialist staff are committed to supporting this and work in partnership with parents and carers to achieve the very best outcomes for every child and young person.
With specialist facilities including a hydrotherapy pool, sensory room and a life skills area, pupils can access a wide curriculum and enrichment programme to meet their physical, academic and emotional needs. This is an evolving and creative offer, supporting personal development and focused on meeting individual EHCP outcomes.
