Job overview
Are you a passionate practitioner with a genuine commitment to supportive, inclusive and creative education to both improve progress and increase confidence for learners? If so, we would be delighted to hear from you.
The Saturday Literacy Scheme (SLS) aims to boost the confidence and learning of children who have struggled with any aspect of Literacy at KS1, but have not been diagnosed with a specific learning need resulting in an EHCP. At the SLS, children benefit from our unique, creative Literacy workshops taught in small groups.
We are looking to appoint a positive, hardworking, skilled and enthusiastic practitioner
who wants to make a real difference supporting Year 3 children who are struggling with
Literacy. Applications are invited from committed, high quality candidates to join our
experienced and established SLS team.
The key responsibility for this role is securing high quality teaching and learning in a less
formal environment offering more opportunity for group work, creativity, speaking and
listening and Fun! Each group has 10-20 children and 6-8 Year 10 student mentors who
support the Tutors and children in their group.
Teachers are responsible for ensuring that their practice embodies the highest standards of professionalism, and challenges all children with high expectations of behaviour and effort. Other responsibilities will be to positively engage with, and support student mentors.
Successful candidates will join an experienced team that specialises in delivering exciting
learning activities designed to increase enjoyment and confidence in learning, meet
individual needs and give children the best possible educational outcomes.
We meet for up to 20 Saturday mornings each year starting in September and finishing late March/early April. The SLS takes place at James Allen’s Girls’ School in Dulwich, SE22. Timings are from 10:15-12:30pm with occasional team meetings following the morning session.
