Working Pattern:  Term Time +5 days

30½ hours fixed term contract linked to specific funding. It is not expected to go beyond 31 August 2019.

Southgate School are looking for an enthusiastic and skilled social and emotional support worker/ educational teaching assistant. They will work in our innovative and nurturing school to meet the needs of complex young people from 4-16. Our days are challenging but deeply rewarding. A strong understanding of children with a variety of complex needs that display high levels of anxiety would be an advantage. This role will suit someone who is able to work flexibly to offer support where needed, both in and out of school through outreach. You should be able to deliver learning/ intervention under the supervision of the teacher/ intervention team to individuals and small groups of pupils.

The successful candidate will:

  • be committed to our whole school nurture approach
  • use personalised approaches to help pupils achieve their potential
  • be resilient, able to reflect and think out of the box to try new approaches
    preferably have experience of working with children with complex needs/ high levels of anxiety
  • be able to use their own vehicle for work and travel around the Kirklees area
  • be able to keep up physically with the demands of working within a Special School where pupils have complex needs
  • have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to work as part of a team
  • be positive, calm, sensitive and tenacious.
  • have Team Teach training or the equivalent and be calmly confident about using positive physical intervention when this is required or the desire to undergo training
  • be committed to the safeguarding of children.
