Located in the Madrid Metropolitan Area, Spain, Highlands School El Encinar is an independent Catholic international school. The school is part of a wider network of Catholic international schools located throughout Europe and the United States. The school occupies a 5.5-acre site, and is able to boast a wide range of modern recreational and teaching facilities. The school campus plays host to, among other things, numerous sports facilities including a swimming pool, air-conditioned classrooms, youth centres, an extensive range of IT equipment, a dance studio, science labs, and multiple canteens. In addition to this, and in keeping with its Catholic tradition, the school also maintains two chapels. The school runs a bilingual curriculum, with students receiving instruction in both English and Spanish, with younger students being taught in English and slowly introduced to Spanish as they move from infants into primary school. Secondary and sixth form pupils will be expected to study for the iGCSE examination, followed by British A-level qualifications. Outside the classroom, and in keeping with the schools founding principles, staff work hard to foster a sense of community among the pupils, and value them as individuals, being as they were made in the image of God.
