MPS/UPS from September 2023

Will teach Social Sciences for first 2 terms and then be deployed elsewhere as needed for final term.

We offer:

• GCSE and A level Psychology 

• A level Sociology 

• Btec Levels 2 and 3 Health and Social Care 

Our department consists of two full time teachers and one part time teacher covering the spectrum of subjects in the Social Science suite. In addition to the informal support that happens daily, we meet weekly for briefings to share best practice and discuss the progress of our students. 

We take pride in the creation our own learning resources. We encourage independent learning in the young people studying the Social Sciences and aim to equip them with the skills necessary to study further.

We currently follow the Edexcel specification for both GCSE and A level Psychology, choosing to cover the Criminal Psychology option at A level and Criminal and Sleep and Dreaming topics at GCSE.  The Welsh board is followed for A level Sociology. Health and Social Care follows the Edexcel specification at both levels.

Our priorities include;

• Raising standards of attainment at KS4

• Continued development of resources for the A level specifications in Psychology and Sociology

• A focus on special interest groups, particularly SEN, Pupil Premium and middle ability boys.

We need someone who

• is an excellent teacher and keen to teach across both KS4 and KS5

• is able to deliver Sociology at A level (essential) and can contribute to GCSE Psychology and/or Btec Health Social Care at levels 2 or 3.

• will make a positive contribution to our team

• is organised and imaginative in their approach to the Social Sciences

• is ambitious in ensuring progress for their students.

• is able to maintain good classroom discipline having regard to the behaviour policy of the School

• will contribute to and help to achieve the objectives of the departmental development plan. 

• will uphold the ethos of the school
