Job overview

Torbay Education Safeguarding Service (TESS) is a unique service supporting schools in Torbay to promote the welfare of their children and young people. Led by an experienced social worker the service is on hand to offer advice and guidance to schools when there are concerns for the welfare of their pupils. Established in August 2014 the service works in partnership with Children’s Services to ensure that the most proportionate response is devised to keep children safe, preferably in the community. Although the employment contract sits with Mayfield school we work with every school in the Bay in terms of our commitment to Children’s Services and provide a dedicated advice and support service to the majority of schools in Torbay. In addition to providing advice on thresholds we provide occasional training, supervision and attendance at Team around the Family meetings.

TESS are an integral part of the Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) within Children’s Services and provide a daily commitment to liaising with schools to obtain the wishes and feelings of children to inform decision making attending MASH meetings and strategy meetings as required.

We are now in a position to add to our team. Whilst this could be a qualified social worker we also recognise that there are other professionals with extensive knowledge of safeguarding and a passion to improve outcomes for children. In addition, some individuals have a range of experience and skills but may not have had the opportunity to study for a professional qualification. Hence the position is offered at two pay grades – necessary to comply with HR requirements.  If this describes you, please consider applying for the position which has guaranteed funding until August 2024. There is the likelihood of future funding based on our experience so far.

This represents a unique opportunity, and we would welcome candidates who are confident with social care thresholds and who are able to develop creative community-based solutions to schools.

This is a term time only role, working 39 weeks per year. Holiday pay is included in the contract and there is no provision for time off in term time.

Please make it clear on your application form which post you are advertising for.

If you would like an informal discussion about the post please telephone Sarah James, Team Manager, on 07525 815441.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff to share this commitment. These posts are subject to an enhanced DBS disclosure and other safeguarding checks.

Closing Date: 30th June 2022

Interviews to be held week beginning 11th July 2022

Job Start Date: 5th September 2022

CVs will not be accepted in place of a standard application form.
