ACS International Schools is recruiting a Software Developer to join our IT team, based at our Cobham Campus.

Reporting directly to the Dev Ops Manager and working with the Senior Developer, this role will take responsibility for the development and support of inhouse applications/integrations as well as third party systems across the ACS hybrid platform. The role will be a mix of BAU support and project delivery, with an expected 50/50 split across the two.

Project work will include help designing, planning, implementing new systems and API integration across inhouse and third-party applications to enable efficient data flow whilst ensuring best practice in both development and security is followed.

Key Tasks:

  • Develop, maintain and update server-side applications developing web front end/data interfaces ensuring the high performance and responsiveness.
  • Integrate web services, such as REST or SOAP, into applications and data processes.
  • Build and maintain databases and write efficient queries to manage data across ACS.
  • Write clean, well-documented, and well-organized code that is reusable and scalable.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, develop and test new features.
  • Troubleshoot and debug code to improve performance, functionality, and usability.
  • Stay up to date with the latest trends and technologies in web development and continuously improve skills and knowledge.
  • Participate in code review and contribute to best practices and coding standards.
  • Maintain and align IT strategy in line with business requirements.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other Information Systems team members, managers, administrators, end users and others.
  • Technical awareness of current IT infrastructure and application in particular cloud, SaaS and integration technologies
  • Team player with excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to problem solve effectively and to demonstrate initiative and organisation.
  • Willingness to positively explore, embrace and be trained in new technologies.

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Proven experience as a Full Stack PHP Developer with at least 3 years of experience in PHP development.
  • Strong understanding of PHP and frameworks using Apache in a windows environment.
  • Solid experience in writing efficient SQL queries and managing databases, such as MySQL, Oracle or SQL Server.
  • Proficient in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and related web technologies.
  • Experience with web services, such as REST or SOAP, and API integration.
  • Experience with front-end frameworks, such as Angular or similar library.
  • Experience with version control systems, such as Git or Bit Bucket.
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies and processes.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to debug code.
  • Good understanding of software development principles and best practices.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in an environment with students ranging in age from 3-18.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related experience. 

Hours of Work: 9am – 5pm

Location: Based at ACS Head Office (Cobham) with regular travel to other campuses.

Possible requirement to travel internationally to Doha, Qatar.

Working 5 Days per week including some evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays including participating in a stand-by roster to provide support outside of normal working hours.

Excellence as standard

Situated on 128-acres of Surrey countryside, 20 miles south of Central London, ACS Cobham enrols over 1,350 students aged between 2 and 18 - Early Childhood through High School - offering both the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, and an American curriculum, including Advanced Placement (AP) courses.

The Dormitory provides a home-away-from-home for over 100 students, aged 12-18 (7th through 12th Grades). Boarders share ergonomically designed two-person rooms with ensuite facilities and internet connections; there are student lounges, kitchens, computer and study rooms. Six full-time Dormitory house parents and over ten resident teaching staff ensure an active yet well-considered programme of pastoral care, friendship and advisor groups, house activities and weekend trips.
