Job overview

In response to the growth of the Academy and the increasing SEN requirements of our students, we are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, skilled and committed SENCO to join our SEN team and work alongside our current SENCO. Offering an exciting opportunity for career development, we welcome applications from both experienced and aspiring SENCOs. Whilst experience in a secondary school environment would be an advantage, we also welcome applications from those with SENCO experience from a primary background.

St George’s Academy is a large, successful, 11-18 mixed secondary school of 2,377 students (including 349 in the sixth form and 531 on our Ruskington Campus) with outstanding facilities in all areas. The Academy serves Sleaford, Ruskington and the surrounding Lincolnshire villages.

We are a leading member of the Sleaford Joint-Sixth Form (SJSF), a collaboration of the co-educational sixth forms of St George’s Academy and the Robert Carre Trust. The SJSF provides a full range of post 16 courses for over 700 students and is a beacon of educational provision across Lincolnshire.

The successful candidate will join a highly collaborative and supportive staff team who are deeply committed to our students.

Further details including the job description for the role and application forms are available from our website at www.st-georges-academy.org. Please note that CVs are not acceptable.

Should you have any

questions or wish to arrange an informal visit to the Academy, you can contact

us by email to jobs@st-georges-academy.org or by calling 01529 301162. Informal

visits are welcomed to all roles and can be offered outside of core school hours

where this would be helpful.

St George’s Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. Any successful applicant will be required to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure check by the Disclosure and Barring Service. Additional employment checks will also be carried out for all roles in accordance with “Keeping Children Safe in Education Statutory Guidance for Schools and Colleges”.

St George’s Academy was first established in May 1908, with 208 children on roll. The school was one of the first Technology Colleges; it has been Grant Maintained and was a Foundation School before becoming an Academy in January 2010.   The school has a history of success with students and has a waiting list for every year group. The Academy occupies a site of 32 acres and has over 3500 students on roll at the Sleaford Campus and around 520 on our Ruskington Campus.  The Academy is a comprehensive school serving Sleaford and the surrounding rural area.   The Academy building programme has added significantly to the already very good facilities.  Students attend the Academy from a distance of up to 15 miles. Many of the students live in small villages that surround Sleaford. The housing is still affordable and there are many beautiful villages and towns offering a high quality, rural lifestyle. Sleaford is a rural market town, with a mix of new and historic housing. The nearest large centre of population is the Cathedral City of Lincoln, 19 miles away. The Academy growth reflects the growth in the local population and the parental preference for the Academy over other schools.
