Job overview

Moon Hall is a thriving dyslexia specialist school set in the stunning Surrey Hills

All pupils are dyslexic, however we encourage each of them to be ambitious and be the very best possible version of themselves. Their dyslexia should not be a barrier to their success.

We have above national average GCSE results in English and in overall GCSE pass rates. Our success is attributed to the wonderful environment that we create which expertly balances both academic rigour and pastoral support.

Our staff retention is exceptionally high and the School Leadership Team place a large emphasis on staff wellbeing to ensure that all staff feel valued and respected.

Being a specialist school, we have a large SEN department and an in-house therapy team. If successful in this role, you will be joining a nurturing and supportive team with a very much shared vision and ethos.

This post as a SENCo will suit both someone with experience or someone new to role. It may even be that you are looking for a change or new challenge and we would be happy to accept applications from those willing to undertake training for the role. An understanding of dyslexia and a willingness to support is key.

Moon Hall School Reigate is a Mainstream Dyslexia Specialist school. We begin at year 3 and our oldest pupils leave in year 11.

We give our pupils the opportunity to access the mainstream curriculum and to close the gap between current attainment and what they should be achieving. Through appropriate curricular provision we respect the fact that pupils require different strategies for learning, acquire, assimilate and communicate information at different rates and need a range of teaching approaches and experiences.

Our aim is for all pupils to be independent learners.

Headteacher

Michelle Catterson BSc, PGCE, SpLD Level 3

BDA Board Trustee and APPG member for Dyslexia

Mission and Aim

We aim to help and support every pupil to achieve their full academic and co-curricular potential, teaching to each individual’s ability. Although literacy and numeracy are the main priorities on the curriculum, Moon Hall School also wants the pupil to have personal development to succeed as adults in the 'real world'. The school values aspiration, courage, resilience and ambition.

ISI report

“The quality of the pupils’ overall achievement and learning, including the EYFS, is excellent. The pupils are well educated in line with the school’s aims to give them the confidence and skills to access the curriculum. Pupils are successful in team and individual activities. These include winning art prizes in a local festival and recognition in a national poetry competition. Pupils play hockey at county level. All pupils overcome their difficulties, and their varied starting points, these results demonstrate that the pupils achieve extremely well at GCSE. The pupils’ attitude to their work and learning is usually extremely positive.”
