About the role

The post-holder will be required to carry out such duties as are set out in the current School Teacher’s Pay and Conditions Document set out by David Ross Education trust.

Responsible to the Principal and in their absence the SLT. 

Will have regular contacts with staff, parents, visiting professionals and others, governors and the wider community served by the school.

This is a Permanent post, you will be working full time teaching hours. 

Who we are looking for

The post would particularly suit an established teacher or SENCO who is keen to develop their role as a leader and play a vital role in the inclusion and achievement of all students.

Qualifications and Professional Development

Qualified teacher status (or extensive experience teaching in schools)

Evidence of sustained participation in INSET/CPD

Degree level qualification

Participation in work with other schools/agencies

National SENCO Accreditation

Special Educational Needs

Skills and attributes required by teachers working with pupils with severe and/or complex special education needs.

You will need to have, and deploy these particular skills and attributes:

High expectations of pupils with severe and/or complex forms of special education needs.

Accept that all pupils are entitled to a broad and balanced curriculum, including the National Curriculum, irrespective of age, gender, disability, race and religion.

Willing to adapt teaching strategies to changing circumstances and in response to new ideas and individual needs of pupils.

Ready to demonstrate best working practices, and to work alongside other teachers to increase their confidence and competence in teaching pupils with severe and/or complex forms of special education needs.

Sensitivity to and professionalism in discussing and reporting individual learning and developmental difficulties.

Willingness to work with parent/carers and pupils to secure partnership in the learning process.

Willingness to work as part of a team, to support, develop and work with Teaching Assistants and other professionals.

Create friendly happy atmosphere where courtesy, self-control and regard for others prevail.

Willing to develop an atmosphere in which children are motivated to learn and where each child feels a valued member of the school community.

Based in the town of Kirton, in Boston, Lincolnshire, Thomas Middlecott Academy is a secondary mainstream school for girls and boys between the ages of 11 and 16. It was converted into an academy in March 2015. At present, there are approximately 479 students on the roll. The academy opened in 1624 as a Free Grammar School by Sir Thomas Middlecott. The school is a part of the David Ross Education Trust.

“The recently appointed headteacher has made an impressive start. Expectations for what students can achieve are beginning to rise and there have been improvements in behaviour and attendance. Staff, students and parents feel there have been many positive changes since April 2013. Partnerships with parents are strengthening. Students are cared for well. They feel safe in school and are confident that staff will deal with any problems that may arise. Most teachers show that they have secure subject knowledge and many have good relationships with their students. Where teaching is good, staff target questions at individual students to check the quality of their learning and to keep them fully involved in the lesson.”
