Closing Date: Monday 18th May 2026
Position(s) Available: Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo)
Start Date: 1st September 2026
Interview Date(s): Week Beginning Monday 18th May 2026
Core Purpose of the Role: To act as the school’s SENCo with pupils in both the Prep School (KS1/KS2) and Senior School (KS3/KS4).
Priory School Edgbaston offers a wonderful opportunity for an experienced or aspiring SENCo. We are a small school that provides a strong, inclusive education for pupils of all abilities.
The post holder will have primary responsibility for pupils on the school’s SEN register, which currently includes approximately eight children in the Prep School and twenty pupils in the Senior School. At present, four pupils have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
As such, the role offers the successful candidate the manageable opportunity to provide high-quality support and care for pupils with additional needs, while also offering guidance and advice to teaching staff and parents.
We recognise that a SENCo works most effectively when they have the time to work directly with pupils, building an understanding of their needs and supporting colleagues in meeting those needs both in and beyond the classroom.
At Priory School, we believe passionately that every lesson should be an inclusive lesson. Applicants are encouraged to familiarise themselves with our High-TEMPO principles for teaching, learning, and assessment, which set out our expectations for creative and responsive classroom practice. These principles underpin how teachers meet the needs of all pupils and complement the targeted support provided by the SENCo and others working with children who have additional needs.
The post is envisaged as two days per week, with flexibility around which days are worked. The successful candidate is likely to divide their time evenly between the Prep and Senior Schools. We welcome applicants who wish to blend this role with other roles or commitments.
OUR VISION & VALUES at Priory School are to pursue the dream of every child possessing both courageous and compassionate hearts that glow in ways that inspire and endear others. But also, perpetually curious and creative minds that leave no stone unturned in their endless search for truth, discovery, and meaning.
OUR PURPOSE at Priory School is to nurture our family-oriented school and remain devoted to the promotion and celebration of our multicultural community to inspire and foster a lifelong love of learning on a truly equal footing. Our heritage is our foundation from which we educate our students to become responsible global citizens. We embrace diversity and interfaith understanding alongside awareness of environmental and global issues, in response to the needs of our time.
