Job overview

Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO)

Main/Upper Pay Scale

TLR2a £3,017

Required: April/ September 2023

An excellent and exciting opportunity has arisen for an exceptional and inspirational individual to work as SENCO at The King John School.

This is an exciting time to be joining The King John School. We are part of a dynamic Trust, comprising 4 local schools.

This year, Zenith Trust has sourced an innovative partnership with the Education Endowment Foundation, with a strong focus on “Leadership of Change” and SEND. Part of this role will be taking a lead at The King John School in this regard.

The King John School already benefits from a highly dedicated, friendly and well-resourced Special Needs team. We also have an innovative mental health provision, “Zenith Minds”, which provides additional capacity for King John and the wider Trust. There is a strong SENCO network within the Trust, and the Trust’s CEO sits on the Essex Headteacher Inclusion Roundtable.

We are therefore looking for an excellent teacher with a proven track record of strong student progress, and with a passion and drive to make a difference with our vulnerable students. The successful candidate will be required to teach a percentage timetable across all key stages within their qualified subject area, as Quality First Teaching is key to our SEND strategy.

The role would involve maintaining an accurate SEND register and provision map, as well as providing guidance to colleagues on teaching pupils with SEND. You would be a key point of contact for external agencies, and organisational skills are key as there will be a need to ensure records are maintained and kept up to date. You will be actively encouraged and supported to engage with high quality CPD as part of this role.

If you would like to be part of our journey, and make a genuine difference to students’ life chances, we would be delighted to hear from you.

Applications

To apply for the role please download the application form from the vacancy page on https://www.zenithmultiacademytrust.co.uk/vacancies/, completed applications should be submitted to recruitment@zmat.co.uk. CVs will not be accepted without a completed application form.

Please ensure you say why and how you meet the criteria from the person specification in your letter of application. Full job description and person specification can be found at the end of this pack.

Shortlisted applicants may be screened prior to interview by checking social media sites. The purpose of such screening will be to ascertain whether a candidate demonstrates appropriate conduct, behaviour and suitability for employment in a school environment.

Closing Date: 4th January 2023

A very warm welcome to The King John School, a large, mixed comprehensive with a well-established sixth form.

The school was created in 1949, and since then has served the ever-growing communities of Thundersley and Benfleet, as well as welcoming students from further afield. It is a popular, oversubscribed school where students’ very high attendance and levels of achievement reflect their commitment and enjoyment of school life.
