Adcote Matrix International School (AMIS) is an established international school, located in Seremban, Malaysia. The school is approximately 45 minutes away from the capital city of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur. We offer a broad and innovative curriculum from Early Years and Primary Cambridge International Curriculum and IPC, Secondary Cambridge curriculum, IGCSE and A Level based on a combination of the International Primary Curriculum (IPC), Cambridge International Curriculum and the National Curriculum for England and Wales.

Due to rapid expansion in the school, we are seeking the following new position for August 2025 or earlier where possible.

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) to join our inclusive learning community at Adcote Matrix International School. The successful candidate will work closely with teachers, parents, and external specialists to provide a holistic and supportive learning experience for all students.


Key Responsibilities:


1. Leadership and Coordination:

  • Lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of the school's Special Educational Needs (SEN) policy and practice in line with the UK national curriculum and best practices.
  • Coordinate the identification and assessment of students with special educational needs.
  • Ensure appropriate interventions are put in place to support students with learning difficulties, disabilities, or other additional needs.
  • Organize and chair regular meetings with the SEN team, teaching staff, and other relevant stakeholders to review student progress and adapt strategies as needed.

2. Support and Collaboration:

  • Work closely with teaching staff to provide advice and support in differentiating lessons for students with SEN.
  • Provide guidance and training to staff on SEN issues, including creating effective learning environments for students with diverse needs.
  • Liaise with parents and caregivers to ensure clear communication about students' needs, progress, and support plans.
  • Collaborate with external agencies and professionals (e.g., educational psychologists, speech therapists) to support the development and well-being of students with SEN.

3. Student Support and Progress:

  • Ensure that Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and personal learning plans are developed and reviewed for students with special educational needs.
  • Track and monitor the academic progress and social-emotional development of students with SEN.
  • Provide direct support and interventions for students with SEN, both in and outside the classroom, as necessary.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive school culture where all students are supported and encouraged to reach their full potential.

4. Compliance and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for all students with SEN, including assessments, IEPs, and progress reports.
  • Ensure compliance with local education regulations and policies regarding SEN provision.
  • Prepare and submit regular reports on SEN provision and student outcomes to senior leadership and governing bodies.

5. Professional Development:

  • Stay up-to-date with the latest research, legislation, and best practices in special education.
  • Attend relevant professional development opportunities, conferences, and workshops to continuously improve knowledge and skills in SEN.
  • Act as a mentor for teachers and support staff, offering ongoing guidance and training.


Requirements:


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Special Educational Needs, or related field. A post-graduate qualification in SEN (e.g., PGCert, PGDip, or Master’s) is desirable.
  • Recognized teaching qualification (e.g., QTS, PGCE, or equivalent).

Experience:

  • Proven experience working in a Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) role or similar position within an international or British-style school.
  • Experience working with a wide range of special educational needs, including but not limited to learning difficulties, autism spectrum disorders, dyslexia, and emotional/behavioural challenges.
  • Experience in working with external agencies and specialists to support student needs.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Strong knowledge of SEN legislation, policies, and best practices, particularly within the context of British international schools.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, parents, staff, and external professionals.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Passion for fostering an inclusive, supportive, and dynamic learning environment for all students.
  • Empathy, patience, and a student-centered approach to education.


Desirable:

  • Previous experience working in an international school setting.
  • Knowledge of educational technology and tools to support students with SEN.
