Job overview

Woodcroft School is a family owned independent special school in beautiful surroundings on the edge of Epping Forest. The National Autistic Society accredits our provision.

We are recruiting for full time SEN class teachers to join our team, ideally from September 2019.

The school has seven classes with around 6-8 children per class, staff support is high with a 1:1 ratio. We promote a child-centred approach to learning, and therapist input is provided by on-site SLT and OT staff.

The pay range is MPS + SEN max to UPS + SEN max, plus teacher’s pension.  Our school academic year runs for 37 weeks, which includes 5 inset days.  Visits to the school are strongly encouraged. Please contact Trish or Amy in the school office for an appointment.

Woodcroft is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of its pupils and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Posts advertised are exempted from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and are subject to police and enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service checks.

Established in 1963, Woodcroft is owned and directed by the family of two of the founders. An independent SEN primary day school, Woodcroft is set in beautiful garden surroundings in Epping Forest on the outskirts of north east London.

Woodcroft is approved by the DfE for up to 50 pupils between 5 and 13 who rely on our highly specialist multidisciplinary staff team of around 70 people. Our pupils have severe and complex needs including severe learning delay; Autism; ADHD; mental health conditions; emotional, social and behavioural difficulties; communication difficulties; trauma; and medical conditions.

In March 2023 Ofsted judged the school to have met independent school standards and to be good in its overall effectiveness and in respect of the individual criteria. We aim to be recognised by all as an outstanding school.

Woodcroft’s independence allows for quick, flexible and sometimes innovative responses to the changing needs of its pupils. The school enjoys a very positive culture and excellent working relationships with parents and sending authorities, which results in the school normally being well subscribed.

Woodcroft is a great place to work, with a friendly welcoming team, lovely forest surroundings and a unique homely atmosphere.
