Our vacancies
Due to school expansion, positions have become available for learning support staff members to join our team in September. These positions would would suit someone with special school experience or someone looking for a supportive school to train and develop SEN skills. We would also welcome applications from candidates with a particular interest in or experience of meeting health care needs e.g tracheostomy care, gastrostomy care.
We are a forward thinking and innovative school seeking a member of support staff who has:
• Basic numeracy and literacy skills
• An interest in working with people and engage positively with students who have severe and complex needs
• Effective team and interpersonal skills
• An ability to build good relationships with students and staff
• Good physical health

History and Ethos
Tuke school is a welcoming and inspirational place to learn and work. We have been judged ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted at our last three inspection cycles. Our purpose built school has been open for 6 years and continues to be an exciting place for students and staff. Tuke school is all on one level and gives great access to the outdoor spaces. Our school has many sensory aspects to the design to enable students to engage with their learning at every opportunity. It is an essential part of our ethos that the curriculum and every part of the building is easily accessible to all. We aspire to be a centre of educational excellence for students with severe and complex learning needs, an exceptional place to work and learn for students and staff, a school that encourages creativity, challenge and self motivation and a place where learning will be enhanced and enabled through an inclusive approach.
Location
Tuke school is on Daniel Gardens, Peckham. We are within walking distance from Peckham Rye station and there are several bus routes that serve the area local to the school. The school is also communtable by car and we have staff parking facilities on site. We are on the doorstep of Burgess park, which offers 460,000 square metres of open space, with social spaces to include: picnic areas, cycle track, tennis courts, walking paths, Chumleigh gardens and cafe. It is within walking distance making it accessible for lunchtime walks or talking lunch. We also have the benefit of having fantastic transport links and being very accessible to central London with its numerous attractions, restaurants and sporting facilities.
Our School
At the heart of our curriculum is our mission statement: “Learning Everywhere, Inspiring Everyone’.
Our school provides state of the art specialist facilities for students with Severe, Profound and Complex Learning needs. Our facilities include a hydro therapy suite , art and design areas, food technology rooms, a space dedicated to physical exploration, music studio, a sensory trail and interactive lighting and touch screen ICT. We provide training to enable staff to use all of the school facilities.
At Tuke, we have developed our own curriculum framework which brings together Education Health and Care plan outcomes, curriculum schemes of work, learning intentions and a systematic way of monitoring student personal progress. Our students are unique in the way that they learn; they may experience difficulties with generalisation, memory retention, communication, problem solving, managing change, transitions and processing skills. It is our aim to minimise barriers by creating learning opportunities that are purposeful and meaningful to each individual. We have small class groups between 6-8 students. Each class will have 3 or 4 support assistants in each class who are directly managed by the class teacher. Our therapy staff work alongside educational staff to ensure that specific learning programmes are intergrated.
Professional development
We are proud of our staff team. It is their skill, determination and motivation to provide the best education for all, that is the key to our success. We embrace teachers with a varying degree of experience and skills. Our induction programme is thorough and we are able to provide ongoing coaching and monitoring to further improve teaching and learning. We have leadership development opporunities that will be offered to teachers to enhance and sustain high quality leadership skills within our school. Our staff work preperation and social are great too, with a comfortable staff room and a garden area for staff.
To support our staff team we are can offer childcare vouchers and cycle to work schemes, options for part time and full time roles, development opportunities and worklife support through an employee assistance programme.
