Context:

The Camden Language and Communication Service (CLCS) is an integrated team of Speech and Language Therapists and Specialist Language and Communication Teachers (LCTs). The LCTs work as part of Robson House Outreach, a borough-wide resource which provides support and advice to schools in Camden. We work together with families, schools and other settings to support primary-aged children with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) in Camden. We provide assessment and intervention for individual children with severe and specific SLCN needs, such as Autism and Developmental Language Disorder. We also work at a whole school level, aiming to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence of school staff in meeting the needs of children with SLCN. This may involve pieces of work such as whole school training or developing communication friendly environments.

Role:

We are seeking an experienced teacher to provide advice, consultancy and targeted intervention, including direct teaching, for children with SLCN and staff working with them in schools and other settings. In this role you will also design, prepare and deliver a variety of training and support to school staff, and to parents/carers of children with SLCN. We are looking for a skilled and experienced primary school practitioner with a thorough knowledge of the range of speech, communication and interaction difficulties and how they can affect children’s/young people’s learning and development, as well as a knowledge of the means by which the effects of these can be overcome.

Key Requirements:

  • Qualified teacher status (essential)
  • Additional recognised SEN qualification (desirable)
  • Understanding of SLCN, including of Developmental Language Disorder and Autistic Spectrum Disorders
  • Knowledge of the Code of Practice for SEN, including the statutory assessment process and legislation relating to children and young people.
  • The skills to help school staff to develop their capacity to support children with SLCN
  • The ability to plan, organise, and deliver effective training
  • The ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team

What we offer you:

  • You will have access to high quality CPD.
  • You will be able to draw on the specialist knowledge of a highly skilled and supportive multidisciplinary team.
  • You will have access to support for your own well-being, such as yoga, tai chi, and mindfulness sessions.
  • You will have the opportunity to work flexibly.
  • You will be based at Robson House, located on the Netley Campus in Camden, which benefits from excellent transport links and allows easy access to all the amenities and attractions of central London.

Additional Information:

Camden Council values the diversity of its community and aims to have a workforce that reflects this. We therefore encourage applications from all sections of the community. Camden is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
