Job summary and Responsibilities:   

Cognition and Learning Specialist Lead Teacher Salary: from £45,000 (this is a 52 week post under Local Government pay and conditions) 

Primary location: To be agreed on appointment (Braintree, Colchester, Basildon or Harlow) Permanent full time contract    

About us:  

The Specialist Teaching and Preschool Service is an integrated multi-disciplinary team of specialist education support and outreach staff, undertaking a range of complementary roles based in 4 locations across Essex. Our aim is to increase the capacity for schools to meet the needs of all pupils with SEND.   

About the role:

The main aim of this role is to lead our specialist workforce to better support schools and settings where there are children whose primary need relates to cognition and learning; where they demonstrate complex, severe or profound learning difficulties and specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia or dyspraxia.  This is a new role and we are looking for an appropriately experienced and qualified teacher who is able to demonstrate creativity, drive and cutting edge specialist knowledge. 

You will also need to be able to demonstrate 

• A high level of skills and knowledge in assessing the needs of children in the primary phase within this area of need 

• A high level of credibility, specifically: 

          in being able lead a team of highly qualified specialist teachers in coaching and       mentoring staff in the primary phase to enable them to support children with high needs (cognition and learning) 

          in identifying opportunities for cross specialism working and coaching and mentoring staff in the service    

Knowledge, skills and experience :

A DfE recognised teaching qualification and a further relevant post graduate qualification  

• Demonstrable teaching experience in Foundation Stage/Key Stage 1 and/or 2 

• Extensive experience of working with children with SEND • Experience and skills of working in partnership with children, families and agencies 

• Experience of developing and delivering training and demonstrable skills in facilitation and coaching 

• Experience of deploying and supervising staff 

• Competent user of ICT 

• Highly effective team working / interpersonal skills 

• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) 

• Highly effective organisational and time management skills 

• You will have the ability to adapt readily to change and work in a variety of situations. 

• You will be able to inspire confidence and offer support in a sensitive manner.

The work location for this post is subject to negotiation with the successful candidate. You will be required to travel throughout the county therefore a valid driving licence and use of a car is essential.  

You will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.
