Our small and friendly team at our ‘Outstanding’ Linton Park Campus, are looking to recruit a highly skilled, compassionate and enthusiastic Specialist Teacher to support students with complex needs across KS2 – KS5. You will support them to become independent learners and to achieve their full potential. 

The post would suit a qualified Specialist Teacher with experience supporting children with Downs Syndrome. It is also essential that the successful candidate be fluent in Makaton or sign-a-long.

Key Responsibilities:

• To use specialist teaching skills to work with a child who has Downs Syndrome on a 1:1 and peer group basis to develop language, learning and social skills

• To use specialist teaching skills to work with other pupils with SEND

• To assess the educational needs of children with complex needs

• To advise, collaborate and plan: curriculum needs and teaching strategies, the use of technical and other specialist equipment, supporting personal and social development, communication needs and language development in Makaton or Sign-a - long as appropriate

• To provide direct training and teaching to children or staff where appropriate to facilitate the child’s learning, inclusion and independence. This may include the use of specialist equipment and teaching and learning materials 

• To contribute towards statutory assessments including Individual Education Plans and Annual Reviews

• To monitor and assess the progress of children with complex needs and to use the information gained to inform planning, advice and practice

• To support and develop the work, skills and knowledge of the teaching assistants working with children who have complex needs, specifically with Downs Syndrome

• To foster links between home and school

• To maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to the pupil’s needs but have regard to the safeguarding procedures of the school and Focus Learning Trust

You will: 

• Possess the relative qualifications to work as a Specialist Teacher

• Be fluent in Makaton or Sign-a-long - this is an essential requirement

• Have prior experience of teaching children with Downs Syndrome and/or other complex needs 

• Be able to demonstrate a sound and up to date knowledge of Primary and Secondary curriculum

• Work collaboratively with school staff including Specialist Teaching Assistants

• Possess confidence when advising others on issues relating to Downs Syndrome and education needs

• Possess exceptional interpersonal skills with an empathetic and sensitive demeanour 

• Well-organised, with good time management

• Respect the schools Ethos and Values

About OneSchool Global UK Maidstone Campus

OneSchool Global UK Maidstone Campus (formerly Focus School Linton Park Campus) is an independent, all-through, co-educational, non-selective school for children aged 7-18. It has a strong Christian ethos and there are 195 pupils on its roll. Linton Park is situated in Maidstone, Kent. The school was established on its current site in 2008 in purpose-built accommodation, which has been further developed since including a new state-of-the-art Learning Centre for Primary students.
