Specialist Teacher (specifically with PSTD/ASD experience)

Our small and friendly team at our Hindhead Campus are looking to recruit an experienced and interactive Specialist Teacher to join the team on a full time, permanent basis. You will ensure that the educational needs of children who have complex needs are met and that they become independent learners and achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

• To use specialist teaching skills to work with children who have complex learning needs, social and emotional needs (specifically working 1:1 and in small groups with a pupil with PTSD and ASD.)

• To use specialist teaching skills to work with other pupils with SEND 

• To advise and collaborate on, curriculum needs and teaching strategies, and the use of technical and specialist equipment  

• To focus on the delivery of English, Maths, Humanities and Personal Development.

• To contribute towards statutory assessments including Individual Education Plans and Annual Reviews 

• To monitor and assess the progress of children with complex needs and to use the information gained to inform planning, advice and practice. 

• To plan, implement and monitor schemes of work, lesson plans and student Self Directed Learning assignments for subject.  Each lesson plan is to indicate which outcomes will be addressed in the lesson and what resources will be used, in line with the OSG UK subject curriculum

• To ensure the Self-Directed Learning philosophy of the school is present in the opportunities presented to the students

• To develop and fully utilise assignments and tasks centred on the school virtual learning environment (Canvas) including homework, quizzes and discussion forums

• To set targets, based on prior attainments, and undertake effective, informative marking which will extend and develop all students

• To maintain and develop up to date knowledge of good practice in education, specifically in relation to children who have SEND 

• To keep appropriate records of progress and attainment of students for use in planning and for reporting accordingly to parents

You will: 

• Have Qualified Teacher Status and experience of teaching children with PTSD, ASD, Conduct disorder or other complex needs

• Good knowledge of Primary and Secondary curriculum 

• Possess a good understanding of SEND procedures

• Have a diverse set of skills which will enable you to be flexible working in the classroom for both theory and practical sessions, as well as in our modern learning centre

• Be an innovative and reflective practitioner who is keen to learn

• Respect and promote the schools Ethos and Values
