Langdon College provides an exciting and flexible programme of study for students with learning difficulties, disabilities, social anxiety or autistic spectrum disorders, who are aged between 16–24 years and who have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). 

We ensure our students experience a supportive and nurturing environment. Our specialist team of professional teachers and support staff offer tailored education packages and programmes to meet individual needs and abilities. With a wide range of support, our students learn and gain crucial independence and life skills, while improving their confidence and preparing them for adulthood.

We are currently looking to recruit specialist Teaching Assistants to join our team, and are looking for individuals who have experience of , and passion for , working with young people with profound and multiple learning difficulties and/ or autistic spectrum disorders. 

These vacancies are based in our Salford, Manchester Campus.


Purpose of the Role

To ensure learners are provided with outstanding additional learning support in order for them to reach their full potential.


Job Description

  • To provide individualised educational support to learners as identified in their Education, Health and Care Plans and as required through any further assessments.
  • To work with teaching staff to provide an outstanding learner experience.
  • To follow the College assessment process of Recording and Recognising Progress and Achievement (RARPA) using the Evidence for Learning app.
  • To organise and deliver education provision and intervention to small groups of learners.
  • To act as an advocate for learners.
  • To provide timely and accurate written records of all support sessions, including production of regular reviews of learners' progress and needs.
  • To advise teachers and other members of staff regarding learner support needs.
  • To identify and implement strategies to ensure that the learners' learning experience is of the highest standard.
  • To be involved with the promotion of activities across the College and at external events, maintaining and forging external links.
  • To support learners in the workplace.


Pastoral

  • To take an active role in the induction and support of learners.
  • Ability to form relationships with young people so as to support them academically and emotionally.
  • Set a good example in terms of dress, punctuality and attendance.
  • To promote and safeguard the welfare of young people and vulnerable adults.
  • To meet the individual needs of all learners to ensure all have an equal chance of success.
  • To communicate with parents/carers and key stakeholders as required to update about progress and well-being of learners, including during Annual Review meetings.


Personal Development

  • To undertake staff development and attend staff meetings as required and requested.
  • To accept flexible redeployment and reallocation of duties commensurate with the level of the post.


Person Specification


Qualifications

  • To have experience of working with young people with SEND OR be a graduate working towards a PGCE OR hold a Teaching Assistant qualification
  • Minimum of an NVQ Level 2 qualification in Maths and English.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development


Knowledge/Experience

  • Experience of providing educational and personal support to learners with SEND.
  • Knowledge of Equality & Diversity and Safeguarding responsibilities.
  • Experience of effective team working and effective relationships between staff and learners
  • Ability to develop supportive working relationships with parents and other key stakeholders
  • Experience of working with learners with SEND, including those with more complex and challenging needs.

Additional Requirements

  • Willingness to work flexible hours

  • Driving license preferable and use of own vehicle.


Post Information

The post holder will undertake all duties and responsibilities in compliance with regulatory, legislative and college procedural requirements.
