Job overview

Odyssey House School are looking for a part-time, experienced, Speech and Language Therapist to join our team! Candidate must be UK based with he right to work.

Speech, language and communication skills play a crucial role in a child’s school readiness and ability to achieve their educational potential. However, not all children have the speech, language and communication skills they need to fully engage with their education. Speech and Language Therapists work directly with children, their families, and other education professionals to develop personalised strategies to support a child’s individual needs. They also provide training to education professionals so they can identify the signs of speech, language and communication needs and support them appropriately.

Odyssey House School are looking for an enthusiastic and strongly motivated individual to join our experienced team providing intensive specialist support for students. We seek a Speech & Language Therapist who wants to develop their career, skills and knowledge in a specialist educational setting. Experience of working with children and young people with a range of needs including learning delays and Autism is desirable. You will have the opportunity to work alongside other professionals to ensure the best outcomes for the students. You will build rewarding relationships with the students you work with, as you become part of our close and caring community.

The successful candidate will have a degree in speech and language therapy that's approved by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT). The candidate will also have the following characteristics:

Resilience – We support those with SEMH and associated diagnosis and difficulties so there will be times where your resilience is challenged.

Communication – Communicating with our young people is vital to understand their needs. Good teamwork and communication play a key part in ensuring important information is relayed to other staff.

Committed – Will join a supportive and experienced team of dedicated support staff, committed to delivering the very best care.

Compassionate – Our young people require the best educational experience we can offer.  If you are a naturally caring and compassionate person, this is the role for you.

Above all, we provide a supportive and collaborative working environment where you can flourish in your career and feel incredibly rewarded by helping our students with their journey!

Additional Notes:

Successful applicants will be subject to pre-employment safeguarding checks including an enhanced disclosure and barring service (DBS) check. The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and Odyssey Education Services is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are "spent" unless they are "protected" under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children. Odyssey Education Services is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the children and young adults in our school and is an equal opportunities employer.

About Odyssey House School - Highgate

We are looking for experienced and passionate teachers to work in a non-conventional setting.

At Odyssey House School, the journey is everything!

GOALS:

With an innovative child-led approach, collaborative nature, and exceptional specialist team, we aim to become the go to school for children who need a small, homely environment to grow within. Through our evidence-based methods and exceptional levels of service, we are known for making, a significant difference to the futures of our children. The children relish their experience of education and acquire happy childhood memories in the process. At Odyssey, we know that every child is different, with strengths, needs and  aspirations that require a tailored approach to unlock their potential.

OUR GUIDING STAR:

Our unique outlook on education is encapsulated in the five-pointed Odyssey Guiding Star. Each arm points to a crucial part of the service we deliver and  is supported by decades of evidence-backed tools and methodologies designed to  help children succeed.

1. Understanding yourself and others: at Odyssey, we believe that, more than anything else, education is a voyage of self-discovery – about learning who  you are, what your values are, and what you want to do with your life. The  services we provide are designed to help children do exactly that.

2. Communicating effectively: we help our students become strong, confident young adults able to articulate their thoughts and opinions, stand up for  themselves, and make their mark on the world.

3. Becoming global citizens: The children we teach today will reach adulthood  at a pivotal moment in human history. Climate change, global pandemics, international struggles for justice and a rapidly shifting political landscape are  already changing the world. We need to equip future generations with the  skills, knowledge, and strength of character to navigate all that and more.

4. Being happy: It’s a sad fact that millions of people hated their time at school.  It doesn’t have to be that way. At Odyssey, we believe we’ve designed a  curriculum that teaches children everything they need to thrive in their  personal and professional lives, and offers them the chance to have fun, form lifelong friendships and do the things they enjoy.

5. Being successful: What does success mean to you? At Odyssey, we help  our students find out. Some children want to go to university. Some want to  get a job. Some want to express themselves creatively. Others want to devote  themselves to their families and friends. We support the children we teach to  identify their goals, then achieve them.
