Who we are looking for:

Additional Requirements:

  • Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree/Diploma
  • Health and Care Professionals Council Registration
  • Registered Member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
  • At least 1-2 years’ experience in the field
  • Good knowledge of relevant AAC

Main Job Responsibilities

  • To be responsible for the assessment, development and implementation of specialist Speech and Language Therapy provision, to a caseload of pupils who have a diagnosis of ASD.

 

  • To write reports, programmes and Communication Profiles reflecting specialist knowledge for Annual Reviews and as required.

 

  • To demonstrate clinical effectiveness by use of evidence-based practice and outcome measures.

 

  • To adapt practice to meet individual pupil’s circumstances, including due regard for cultural and linguistic differences.


  • To be responsible for managing own time appropriately and prioritise tasks accordingly in order to carry out clinically related administrative duties, relevant to the caseload and operation of the department.


  • To provide advice to others regarding the management and care of pupils with language and communication difficulties relating to ASD


  • To demonstrate skills in negotiating and dealing with complex issues to generate appropriate strategies for caseload management.

 

  • To contribute and review each pupils IEP’s and be involved in target setting.

 

  • To work as part of a trans-disciplinary team (TDT) to provide a holistic service.

 

  • To liaise with education staff, care staff, families/carers and other external agencies as relevant, agreeing decision making effective to each pupil’s needs.

The Sybil Elgar School was opened by The National Autistic Society (NAS) in 1965. From its early beginnings of nine pupils/students in one building, it now has the facility to take up to 72 pupils/students as day or weekly boarders, aged 11-19+. The residential accommodation is based in Florence Road, Ealing and the educational provision is in Havelock Road, Southall.

The residential students are coached to and from Corfton Road with the Residential Social Workers and/or Classroom Assistants acting as escorts. Both complexes are easily accessible by public transport.
