Job overview

The Worthgate School is a dynamic and progressive international school, offering a range of Programmes of Study to students. The school environment is positive and harmonious, and our students are motivated and make good progress, allowing most students to progress to British Universities. An exciting opportunity has arisen to teach in our thriving English, Languages and Art Faculty. If you are an outstanding, creative and inspiring teacher, able to teach French to KS5 (IBDP), join us in teaching bright international students in the heart of Canterbury.

Our student body is diverse, inspiring and ever-growing in number and consequently an exciting opportunity has arisen at the Worthgate School. Sports and Activities play a key role in our extracurricular provision and also our pastoral care; we require an assistant to support our Sports and Activities manager with the supervision of students, alongside the planning and delivery of afternoon activities and evening events

With students from around 50 different countries and cultures, it is important that our Activities Assistants have sufficient presence to bring everyone together and create a fun, welcoming and vibrant atmosphere in the school.

The school has a collaborative ethos and academic, pastoral and boarding staff work together to drive the best possible student experience. Students are aged 13-20 years old and can study on many different academic programmes: in addition to offering the more traditional programmes of studysuch as GCSE and A-level, students can also follow the International Baccalaureate or our University Foundation Programme at KS5-level. We also offer bespoke one-year courses for students before they start GCSE or KS5-level courses.

Younger students have compulsory sports activities on their school timetables and additionally they, along with older students, have opportunities to engage with sports and other activities on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Additional activities run in the Boarding Houses on evenings and weekends, and during school holidays.

We are looking for candidates who can:

• Engage with young people in a friendly, professional manner;

• Follow instructions so that students engage in fun, but safe activities;

• Supervise students safely, being mindful of school welfare, attendance and disciplinary processes;

• Adhere to all health and safety policies, procedures and risk assessments (as appropriate to the activity);

• Proactively suggest activities and improvements to current ones;

• Proactively work with other staff members to ensure a varied extracurricular provision;

• Commit to ensuring our students have an enriched, holistic boarding school experience;

• Support with Boarding staff duties as appropriate.

This role would be suitable for candidates who have Sports-related qualifications. This role would also be ideal for an individual studying for a post graduate qualification, a graduate taking a gap year, an individual wanting to gain experience in a School or someone having employment which allows this role to be fulfilled.

Proposed working patterns (school term time):

Monday/Wednesday/Friday: 6:00 – 8pm

Tuesday/Thursday: 2- 8pm

Other hours are available during weekends and during school holidays.

Closing date for applications and interview:

Closing date: March 24 12pm.

Early applications are encouraged and will be processed as they are received. We reserve the right to interview and appoint in advance of the date listed above.

The Worthgate School offers an outstanding international pre-university educational experience to students aged 14+ from all over the world. Students live and study onsite in the heart of the city of Canterbury, studying for GCSEs, A levels, IB and University Foundation Programmes, and preparing for admission to universities across the country and elsewhere. We pride ourselves on our approach to teaching and learning, with small class sizes and an informal atmosphere ensuring that students are treated as individuals and build great relationships with staff.

We are accredited by the Independent Schools Inspectorate, an organisation which assesses independent schools in the UK. The college achieved the highest rating in its ISI inspection (March 2019) and was rated ‘fully compliant’ in all areas covering boarding, welfare, achievement and results, curriculum, extra activities, pastoral care, leadership and teaching.

We take student welfare very seriously, providing comfortable, safe and secure en-suite boarding accommodation. Our friendly house staff provide a home from home, looking after our students whilst encouraging them to become confident and independent. The wide range of nationalities and cultures represented at our College reflects our aim of developing our students into ‘Global Citizens’ who treat one another with respect and tolerance.

The Worthgate School is part of the CATS Global Schools Group. CATS Global Schools is a leading provider of pre-university academic courses and English language courses in the UK. We provide programmes including A Level, IB and University Foundation, as well as English Language Study, to a growing number of international students seeking to win places at UK universities.  We operate a number of different educational brands: CATS College Cambridge, The Worthgate School in Canterbury and Guildhouse in London; CATS Academy in Boston; Cambridge School of Visual and Performing Arts (CSVPA) and Stafford House English language schools and study holidays.
