Guildford High Junior School is a lively, vibrant place where girls blossom personally, intellectually and socially.
Girls enjoy a variety of sports within their timetabled PE lessons and our outstanding sports facilities are also used to their full advantage for extracurricular sporting activities. From the earliest stages of their school lives, we encourage girls to be enthusiastic and excited about a wide variety of sporting activities, experience of being part of a team and learning new skills.
The role
As a Sports Coach and Administrator, you will work closely with Junior School PE Teachers, providing proactive assistance and support to staff and pupils. The assistant will need to have experience in a range of sports and will be involved with setting up, delivery and clearing away PE lessons and extracurricular activities.
What you will do
This is an interesting and varied position, and you can expect your core role to include:
- Assisting the teacher with the preparation of materials and resources for lessons and maintain resources in good order.
- Leading small group activities/drills as directed by the teacher.
- Accompanying teams to matches and to support them during play.
- Umpiring netball practice/matches.
- Assisting the teacher with the observation and assessment of children and assist with record keeping as appropriate.
- Discussing the welfare of the children and help devise strategies for providing help where needed.
- Supervising pupils during break and lunch times
- Accompanying girls on school visits and to be responsible for a small group of these girls.
What you will need to succeed:
While the most able young sportswomen have every chance to compete at the highest level and achieve impressive results, enthusiastic girls of all ability levels are fully involved and encouraged to be part of a sporting team. You will be a key team member in delivering this.
You will be an experienced Games player and have an interest in coaching other sports. You will need have a flexible approach in responding to this varied position. A first aid qualification would be beneficial, although training can be provided.

- The following academic achievements will be necessary:
GCSEs: English Language and Mathematics GCSE Grade C/level 5+
- In terms of experience, we will be looking for a skilled all-round sports player with an interest in coaching, in particular, in the sports played at GHS. You will need to have a strong knowledge base in Gymnastics with a good understanding of the current best practice.
- evidence of a positive child-centered ethos and/or some experience of working with young people.
- A willingness to undertake first aid training (if you don’t already hold this).
- You will already have great skills in oral and written English, be good at listening, confident in the use of ICT and possess great organisational skills. You will have the ability to communicate warmly, confidently and professionally with pupils, staff and parents. You must have a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and we will provide you with training in this.
