Job overview

We are offering a fantastic opportunity for a number of Sports Graduates to join us for one and two-year development posts, starting September 2019. Our Sports Graduates will ideally offer a sports specialism, but be highly versatile in skill and have the ability to coach at a high level, across all of our core sports disciplines; Rugby, Hockey, Netball and Cricket as well as having knowledge and skill in Tennis and Rounders.

If you are accepted into the programme, from day one, you will have a full and varied role in the academic and pastoral functions of the school, gaining insight and experience into all facets of this vibrant establishment. Your days will be spent assisting in PE and swimming lessons in the morning and coaching in the afternoon. You will also be involved in after school clubs, the Sport Scholars’ strength and conditioning programme and the provision we offer our boarding pupils.

You will reside in staff accommodation which is usually situated within a boarding house, and during two evenings a week, you will play an active role in the running of the boarding house and also take part in leave-weekend activities (one per term.)

Our Graduate Sports Coaches will receive:

• A qualification in first aid

• A qualification in teacher’s lifesaving RLSS National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers & Coaches

• Single accommodation for the duration of your programme for no charge or at a subsidised rate, depending on location.

• All meals provided during term time

After the first year, if you would like to pursue a career in teaching, we may be able to support you in a PGCE course, giving you a structured timetable to continue working with us while studying, and assist you in gaining the relevant experience for the teaching qualification.

During your PGCE year you will:

• Teach a timetable across 2 key stages as well as coaching games every afternoon

• Be assigned a mentor to guide you and help you through the programme

• Receive relevant on the job training and work experience

At the end of your tenure, we would usually expect you to use your newly acquired skills and experience to continue a prosperous career in another school and will assist you in your applications to do so. However, should a suitable position within our school arise, we will encourage and assist you to apply within. Either way, our aim is to give you the confidence and experience to begin a lifelong and rewarding career in education.
