Job overview

Emanuel School is seeking an experienced Administrator to play a key role overseeing administrative work in our large and thriving sports department.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an ambitious sports department where you will be instrumental in building the profile of sport at Emanuel School and in South West London.

You will provide administrative support with a focus on supporting all aspects of the school’s sports facilities. This will include updating the sports website, ensuring all forthcoming fixtures are listed, as well as acting as the first point of contact, responding to pupils, parents, and staff regarding sports issues. You will also order and maintain sports equipment, supplies and first aid kits, replacing used stock and ordering supplies when necessary.

The role also includes the organisation of events, including the sports awards evening, as well as regular communication with all areas of the school and wider community.

This is a fixed term post for six months for the purpose of covering a maternity leave. Predicted dates are May 2024 – October 2024.

About you

You will need previous experience of delivering an efficient and organised administrative support service within an educational or sporting environment. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and database software is equally important.

You will be highly efficient and driven to work in a fast-paced environment. You should have a keen eye for detail to ensure the smooth running of a busy programme.

You will also need to be able to update website content.

An interest in sport is desirable. If you are a driven and highly organised individual who is happy to contribute to all areas of the school, we will be delighted to hear from you.

Working at Emanuel

There is a genuine buzz at the school. Colleagues enjoy their work and, like the pupils, are ambitious for the school.

Everyone works hard here, and anyone joining the school should expect to do so. There’s a strong sense of community and source of friendship. From the briefing to all staff, to the half termly staff meetings, termly consultative group meetings and a common room committee, there’s ongoing dialogue about the school’s aims.

We aim to look after our staff too. We have an appraisal scheme with a focus on the employee’s professional development; we sponsor postgraduate courses and a range of training opportunities; we offer a healthcare plan via Simply Health that includes counselling and medical support; and we’re committed to supporting staff wellbeing. On a more practical level, all staff benefit from good pension provision and free lunches.

Additional benefits include:

  • Discounts in local shops, restaurants and businesses
  • Season ticket loans and a ride to work scheme

About Emanuel School

“The school whole-heartedly fulfils its aims to inspire endeavour, confidence and ambition in its pupils.”

ISI Inspection Report April 2023

Welcome to Emanuel. We are a fully co-ed school of over 1000 pupils, aged 10-18, with over 200 teaching and support staff colleagues.

We are an ambitious community. This summer, 87% of grades at GCSE were awarded 9-7, which is a lift of 37% across recent years. Our A Level A*-A percentage is 53%. This is 20% higher than in 2018 and the school is now recognised as one of the best for academic outcomes in the country. The recent ISI Inspection report noted that: “Pupils make excellent progress across the range of subjects and significant value is added to their academic outcomes.”

We are committed to developing all our major sports and value pupil participation as well as team and individual achievement. The school’s critical build plan will see a significant investment in our on and off-site sports facilities across the next 3-4 years. The same site plan will support the outstanding creative and performing arts teaching at the school, as the school’s plans for a large specialist science teaching block will also allow us to improve our facilities for music and drama, both areas of traditional strength. We were delighted that these areas were recognised in last year’s Independent School of the Year Awards when we won the award for our performing arts.

Beyond the classroom, we have a thriving partnerships programme, helping to develop our pupils at all ages as they participate in this work, and benefiting the local community, with over 1000 primary school children coming to use our site and work with our pupils each month. In 2021 we won the Independent School of the Year Award for our community outreach work.

At the heart of our school is a positive and welcoming culture. We are fortunate to have a committed and talented group of colleagues, people who recognise the importance of everyone at the school having a varied working life, a sense of personal growth and shared enjoyment. We wish you the best of luck with your application.
