Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a part-time Sports’ Technician (20 hours per week) term time only to start in January 2017.

This part time position is a grade 2 point 16 on the Support Staff Salary £7,537.66 plus an area allowance of £462.44 (pro rata to £16.016 plus £983 Area Allowance).

This is a flexible post supporting the work of Sport and PE which form part of the Sport, Performing Arts and Travel Department and contributing to the delivery of recreational sport as part of the College’s wider enrichment programme.

Provision and opportunities within Sport and PE have increased dramatically over the last few years at Strode’s both academically and practically. There are currently approximately 130 students on academic programmes, as well as a significant number who participate in different recreational sports and competitive teams (male & female Football, Rugby & Netball) or in one of the many complementary courses offered including Fitness Instructor qualifications.

Strode’s College is fast gaining a reputation as a centre of sporting excellence both regionally and nationally, with many sporting successes in recent years. Regional successes include Men’s and Women’s Surrey Cup wins and a Men’s Rugby Surrey Colleges League triumph. On a National level, three Strode’s students achieved individual success at the British Colleges National Finals held at Bath University. Students benefit from a wide range of workshops and supplementary activities which provide links to professional companies, industry providers and H.E.; visits are frequently organised to support students’ learning.

Recreational sport is a key element of the College’s wider enrichment programme and the successful candidate will play a key role in contributing to the development and delivery of this including managing the on-site Gym and leading on recreational activities. S/he will also assist with a range of other activities to support Sport and PE such as managing equipment.

Sport and PE benefit from subject-specific facilities including a new fully equipped fitness suite with top of the range equipment, a large sports’ field with three football pitches and one rugby pitch and a hard-court area for tennis and netball.

The post is offered initially on a fixed-term contract between January and July and offers an exciting opportunity to join a popular and successful sixth form college.

The College offers all support staff the option of joining the Local Government Pension Scheme. This is a tax approved, defined benefit occupational pension scheme.

The closing date for applications to reach the College is midday on Friday 16th December.

Interviews will be held Tuesday 20th December.
