We joined Star Academies in 2018 and, like all Star schools, we have a leadership specialism.

We are a rapidly improving school with high ambitions and expectations for all of our pupils. We provide a knowledge-based academic curriculum alongside a rich and diverse leadership programme that grows character and inspires charitable and social action. Our pursuit of educational excellence is based upon our fundamental belief that every pupil has the capacity to become a successful and inspirational leader.

About Star Tuition

Evidence shows that well-planned tuition, delivered by teachers with excellent subject knowledge, is one of the most effective means of supporting young people to achieve academic success.

Star is developing tuition programmes in mathematics to boost the performance of pupils in Year 11 who may be in danger of not securing the grade 5 GCSE qualifications of which they are capable.

Star tuition programmes will be delivered in mathematics, each for 30 hours in total. Tuition sessions will be delivered between January and April 2023, outside school hours and including sessions during the February and Easter school holidays. Each session will be between 90 and 120 minutes’ duration. The sessions will complement (not replace) regular school intervention sessions. Tuition sessions will be delivered face-to-face in school.

Tuition will be delivered to ‘Star’ pupils (those who need a boost to achieve grade 5). The maximum size of a Star tuition group will be 15 pupils.

Star tutors will be paid £2000 per 30 hour programme.

Bay Leadership Academy is looking to recruit 2 tutors for mathematics.

Programme content will be devised by the school in order to complement its delivery of quality first teaching.

Who we’re looking for

Star is looking for exceptional mathematics teachers to deliver tuition to pupils in Years 11. These teachers may be currently working in Star schools, or in schools outside the trust. They will have a proven track record of success in raising pupils’ outcomes.

Successful candidates will have the ability to deliver high quality tuition that drives achievement and supports pupils in catching up on specific areas of the curriculum. They will be able to demonstrate experience of achieving positive outcomes for pupils, along with strong subject knowledge, and evident passion to make a difference to the lives of young people. As a committed team player, a Star tutor will have excellent organisational skills and ability to motivate and engage pupils.

Tutors will be appointed on casual contracts and will be expected to undertake at least one 30-hour programme in January-April 2023. Tutors who have additional capacity and wish to secure further work may be asked to deliver more than one programme.

You will have:

  • A degree-level qualification and qualified teacher status (QTS)
  • A track record of the sustained delivery of very positive attainment and achievement in mathematics at Key Stage 4 (GCSE)
  • The ability to engage and enthuse pupils
  • An understanding of the role and potential of tuition in supporting pupils’ progress and achievement
  • A strong commitment to the STAR values.
