Job overview

The Academy's Education programmes team is currently recruiting for a STEM Education Programme Manager who will be based in the West Midlands area.

The Royal Academy of Engineering is harnessing the power of engineering to build a sustainable society and an inclusive economy that works for everyone.

In collaboration with our Fellows and partners, we’re growing talent and developing skills for the future, driving innovation and building global partnerships, and influencing policy and engaging the public.

Together we’re working to tackle the greatest challenges of our age.

You will be responsible for delivering a significant Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) education programme to an existing network of secondary schools and further education colleges across the West Midlands, with the aim to inspire and support the next generation of engineers and technicians.

The programme is funded by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and is one of several programmes developed as a tribute to the late Professor Lord Bhattacharyya KT CBE FREng FRS, founder of WMG at the University of Warwick. To lead this programme, you will have a demonstrable track record of success in the management and delivery of STEM education programmes, have experience in stakeholder management as well as an understanding of the current 11-18 school and college systems in the West Midlands.  You will also have an interest in the education of young people and a commitment to widening participation in engineering education.

Possessing excellent programme management and administrative skills, you will be a self-starter who has the confidence to work autonomously and pro-actively. You will also have excellent computer skills and be an effective communicator as well as having the ability to perform well under pressure.

In return, we offer an unrivalled package of benefits including a non-contributory pension scheme, BUPA cash plan, private medical insurance, subsidised restaurant, regular social activities, health and wellbeing programmes as well as significant investment into your personal and professional development. You will be based in the West Midlands area with the post being a combination of home-working and working from WMG at the University of Warwick, where office and desk facilities will be available within the widening participation unit.  Occasional travel to the Academy's headquarters, based in a prestigious location opposite St James's Park in London, will also be required for which travel expenses will be reimbursed.

We have adapted our working practices in response to Covid-19, and all staff are currently working remotely.

If this sounds like you, we would love to hear from you.

About The Royal Academy of Engineering

"As Britain’s national academy for engineering, we bring together the country’s most eminent engineers from all disciplines to promote excellence in the science, art and practice of engineering. Our strategic priorities are to enhance the UK’s engineering capabilities; to celebrate excellence and inspire the next generation; and to lead debate by guiding informed thinking and influencing public policy."

Strategic Priorities

The Academy’s work programmes are driven by three strategic priorities, each of which provides a key contribution to a strong and vibrant engineering sector and to the health and wealth of society.

Enhancing national capabilities

As a priority, we encourage, support and facilitate links between academia and industry. Through targeted national and international programmes, we enhance – and reflect abroad – the UK’s performance in the application of science, technology transfer, and the promotion and exploitation of innovation. We support high quality engineering research, encourage an interdisciplinary ethos, facilitate international exchange and provide a means of determining and disseminating best practice. In particular, our activities focus on complex and multidisciplinary areas of rapid development.

Recognising excellence and inspiring the next generation

Excellence breeds excellence. We celebrate engineering excellence and use it to inspire, support and challenge tomorrow’s engineering leaders. We focus our initiatives to develop excellence and, through creative and collaborative activity, we demonstrate to the young, and those who influence them, the relevance of engineering to society.

Leading debate

Using the leadership and expertise of our Fellowship, we guide informed thinking; influence public policy making; provide a forum for the mutual exchange of ideas; and pursue effective engagement with society on matters within our competence. The Academy advocates progressive, forward-looking solutions based on impartial advice and quality foundations, and works to enhance appreciation of the positive role of engineering and its contribution to the economic strength of the nation.
