Job overview

Governors are looking to appoint an experienced and inspirational SENCo to lead a team who are committed to providing an outstanding education and dedicated to making a difference in our exciting and forward thinking school.

The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic SENCo who has a real passion for education, who understands how to create an inspiring learning environment and provide rich, creative and stimulating opportunities for our students.

As a role model for the school community, you will raise the level of student achievement and help to foster a positive learning environment. You will create a commitment to learning, which enthuses students and gives them the motivation to do well. In return, you will benefit from great support from colleagues along with further training and professional development opportunities to enhance your wider skills and interests to benefit our students.

The SENCo will provide teaching support to individuals and small groups; identify and support students with additional learning needs (including those with disabilities and the most able) and, working with other professionals, offer advice and guidance to teachers and parents about effective learning strategies.

Suitable candidates will be forward-thinking, resourceful experts in SEN theory and provision. We welcome applications from experienced and knowledgeable leaders.  You will ideally have the appropriate SENCo qualifications already in place and want to aspire to Senior Leadership.

We expect:

· A passion for your subject

· Creativity and enthusiasm

· Teamwork

· High expectations of yourself and students

· Confident IT skills

· Excellent communication skills

· The ability to do ‘whatever it takes’!

Roundhay School offers:

· Outstanding   facilities

· Comprehensive tailored induction programme

· Comprehensive staff   welfare package

· Roundhay is the most oversubscribed school in the city with the highest attendance

· 100% staff recommend   the school as a place to work

· 'An outstanding   Sixth Form' (Ofsted) with 500+ students

· IIP Gold Award, 'staff   training is excellent' (Ofsted)

· National Support School and Red Kite Teaching School Alliance strategic partner

· 'Behaviour for   learning across the entire school is outstanding' Ofsted

This role offers an exceptional opportunity, for the right candidate, to make a difference to the future of   education.  If you share Roundhay School’s vision and ambitions, possess a strong desire to work within an ethos of creative collaboration and partnership and want to have a positive impact on young people, families and the community, then we would be delighted to hear from you.

Headteachers will make all kinds of claims about their own school, particularly during a recruitment process or when trying to 'sell' their school to others, but there is genuinely something incredible and unique about Roundhay School!

We recently secured the official 'World Class Schools Status' on top of our Ofsted Outstanding rating.  These accolades and our results, which sit well above national averages, have been achieved because we have superb, dedicated and highly motivated staff working with fantastic young people.  Unlike some schools, we detest schools that operate a culture of fear and have developed a reputation for treating our staff well and supporting development.  The Leadership Team play a key role in managing pupil behaviour, for example, by being involved with the centralised detentions and continuous corridor patrols.  This is a key reason why we have excellent behaviour and a strong, warm and friendly ethos, which in turn allows teachers to teach and staff to enjoy carrying out their respective roles.  Staff morale is incredibly high and sickness absence is low for these very reasons.

If your application is successful and you are shortlisted, the interview day will allow prospective candidates to see the school in action, speak to staff and judge for yourself!
