Job overview

Liverpool – initially based in Wavertree but moving to Woolton (Strawberry Field)

This is an exciting and unique opportunity for an experienced Programme Manager, who is also a practicing Christian, to be part of our innovative plans for Strawberry Field.  Join us and be part of our vision.

Strawberry Field holds a special place in Liverpool’s history. Donated to The Salvation Army, its large Victorian house was a home for the city’s most vulnerable children from 1936 until it finally closed its doors in 2005. It was during its time as a children’s home that John Lennon would play in the grounds and this provided the inspiration for the 1967 Beatles’ song, ‘Strawberry Fields Forever’. 50 years since the release of that famous song, we want to open the doors to Strawberry Field once again.
We have ambitious plans to re-develop the site including providing people with learning disabilities vocational training, work placements and tangible opportunities to gain employment. The site will also provide a place of spiritual reflection and a visitor experience which explores The Salvation Army and John Lennon’s connection with the former children’s home.  In this vital role as Programme Manager you will develop, launch and manage the ‘Steps to Work’ programme for young people with learning disabilities, which in the future will be based at Strawberry Field.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Developing and delivering an innovative high quality training and work programme
  • Promoting the Christian mission of The Salvation Army within the programme
  • Building networks and developing opportunities for partnership working
  • Ensuring compliance with contractual arrangements
  • Preparation and monitoring of the budget.

The successful candidates will be able to demonstrate:

  • That as a committed and practicing Christian you have an understanding of and ability to deliver integrated mission
  • Substantial experience of managing projects, staff and volunteers
  • Experience of contract compliance and meeting targets, and of strategic planning
  • NVQ 5 or equivalent in Management, Business and Finance, Social or Community Work or relevant subject

Benefits: 25 days annual leave + bank holidays, a contributory pension scheme; season ticket loan; Childcare Voucher Scheme; an employee assistance programme

Appointment subject to satisfactory references. For this role we will require the successful candidate to provide a faith based reference.

An enhanced DBS will be undertaken for the successful candidate. The Salvation Army will continue to pay for the DBS certificate for new starters, but the successful candidate will be responsible for registering and paying the £13 fee for the DBS Update.

Closing date: 2 October 2017. Interview date: 11 October 2017.

CVs will not be accepted.
