The Opportunity?

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team as a Student Support Manager. This role is a fundamental to our Pastoral system as it provides support to our students, staff, families and wider agencies.

 

The successful candidate will have excellent inter-personal and organisational skills. A calm demeanour with a variety of communication skills will enable you to handle any issues arising with staff, students and parents appropriately and deal confidently with the unexpected.

 

You will undertake a broad range of tasks across your day. Including:

·        Liaising with parents on a wide range of pastoral concerns

·        Liaising with staff

·        Supporting the senior leadership on callout duties

·        Supporting and promoting good behaviour across the school

·        Mentoring young people who are struggling to engage in school

·        Investigating incidents and helping to make decisions on suitable sanctions

 

The role is wide and varied, no two days will be the same, so the ability to be flexible is essential. You will join a highly motivated, supportive and hard working team.

 

Having work experience in a school or with young people would be advantageous but not essential.

 

Who are we?

Thurston Community College is a large popular mixed comprehensive school. It comprises of two distinct and specialist sites. Our Thurston Campus, for students from Year 7 to Year 11 is situated four miles east of Bury St Edmunds. Thurston Sixth; Beyton Campus is located in the nearby village of Beyton, offering a bespoke centre of excellence for students in Year 12 and Year 13. 

 

It was recently announced that the school will be part of the School Rebuild Programme.

A new Principal was appointed in September 2021 and together with the Governing Body has set an exciting and aspirational vision for the College over the next five years. The person appointed will be a fundamental part in building on our already Good Ofsted Status (March 2018) and realising this vision to create:
