Job Description: Student Support Officer
Start Date: ASAP
New Scale Point: Scale 4 Point 7 to 11 (£22369 to £24054)
Hours: 37.5 Hours A Week, 8.30-4.30 Monday- Friday. (30 min lunch break). (Term time only plus 3 training days)
Responsibilities
Ethos & Welfare
To seek to improve pupil conduct, punctuality, attendance, pride and behaviour
To provide support for RSL’s with the necessary administration with regards to Spirit, assemblies, primary school events and careers
Work with staff, students and external suppliers to arrange celebration events; incl. sourcing external suppliers, staffing, organising fund raising events
To provide administrative support for RSLs, SLT & Attendance Team by contacting parents and proactive telephone calls. Update student files and & mentor files
To provide a triage first aid service to all students
Maintain, update and review records for all students regarding attendance, academic results, sanctions and personal details.
Behaviour
To carry out duties that relate to the students learning
Following the appropriate School policy; investigating and carrying out actions that arise
To provide administrative support for the reintegration meetings following an exclusion of a student
To monitor & support individuals or small groups of students who are experiencing behavioural difficulties in lessons
To complete follow up work with pupils in school who have been reintegrated into normal lessons.
Guidance
To liaise with teaching staff in providing information for their planning and adjusting learning activities as appropriate (e.g. Pupil passports)
To coordinate the reintegration of pupils back to lessons
To coordinate the provision of feedback to students in relation to progress, achievement, behaviour and attendance
To offer teachers support and advice and to model approaches that help children manage their emotions, social skills and behaviour more effectively.
Fulfilling the role of Student mentor if required
Welfare
To implement (as named) required actions from Individual Behaviour plans and IAEP’s
To participate in the assessment of students to determine and implement Education / Behavioural / Support strategies (e.g. Surveys)
To liaise with parents, teachers and other professionals/agencies about children’s progress
To keep records of children’s responses to behaviour change programmes
To feedback and report on student responses, achievement and progress in pastoral meetings and to staff and parents
Be responsible for writing reports on pupils work, behaviour and attitude within the centre and liaising closely with pastoral staff regarding these reports
To carry out home visits when necessary
Wellbeing
Ensure all pupils have equal access to learning using appropriate strategies and resources, where necessary
Liaise with pastoral staff members to ensure the wellbeing of pupils and their full participation in school life.
Raise any concerns regarding pupils’ behaviour with the relevant head of year
Implement any specific arrangements for individual pupils, ensuring that relevant staff members are aware of the measures in place.
Continuously motivate and challenge pupils, whilst promoting and reinforcing self-esteem
Place a strong focus on pupils’ SMEH needs and welfare
Establish constructive relationships with pupils, parents and colleagues to assist home-school communication and facilitate attendance.
To have a presence around school during break time & lunchtime.
Inclusion
Under direction of SLT/ RSLs assist with the transition programme for students joining the college and their families
Ensure secluded students are supplied with learning ensuring they are fully engaged
Provide first aid and behaviour reports for RSLs & SLT and other staff, escalating concerns as appropriate
Provide cover for the Attendance & Inclusion Teams as necessary
Provide administrative support to students on Horizons pathway
First Aid
if trained support students with medical needs

share relevant information with staff
Reception
To learn the role of the reception staff and cover as needed
Wellbeing
Ensure all pupils have equal access to learning using appropriate strategies and resources, where necessary.

Safeguarding
The post holder’s responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people for whom they come into contact will be to adhere to and ensure compliance with the School’s Child Protection Policy Statement at all times. If in the course of carrying out the duties of the post the post holder becomes aware of any actual or potential risks to the safety or welfare of children in the school they must report any concerns to their Line Manager or the School’s Child Protection Officer.
Variation Clause
This job description will be reviewed and updated periodically in order to ensure that it relates to the job performed or to incorporate any proposed changes. This procedure will be conducted by the Headteacher or line manager in consultation with the post holder. In these circumstances it will be the aim to reach agreement on reasonable changes but if agreement is not possible management reserves the right to make changes to the job description following consultation.

About Abbey College, Ramsey
Abbey College, Ramsey is located in a small market town, almost half way between Huntingdon and Peterborough and within easy reach of Cambridge and London. The College is set within extensive, historic and beautiful grounds close to the Parish Church of St Thomas A Becket. The College is a large 11-18 school with a catchment which extends over a wide rural area.
There are approximately 1090 students on role, including a sixth form of 120. We currently have around 70 members of teaching staff with an additional support team of over 75 members of staff.
We have high aspirations as a College as our 2016 results showed. Our A level and BTEC results placed us the sixth best in Cambridgeshire, outdoing many private schools, and our GCSE results were our highest ever, with a progress 8 figure of 0.21. We are also oversubscribed for the second year in a row this year by over 40% and our attendance is 2% higher than the national averages.
