Hours:  37 Hours Per Week (8:00am – 4:00pm Mon – Thurs and 8:00am – 3:30pm Fri with 30 minutes break unpaid)

Term-Time/All Year Round:  Term time only

The Student Support Receptionist is usually the first port-of-call when students or their parents / carers contact Student Support. The post-holder will be able to sensitively support students and assess if they need to be referred to specialist members in the team or supported to return to lessons. The Student Support Receptionist will ideally be first-aid trained and able to treat minor injuries and ailments and dispense medication. 

They will provide administrative support to the team and take initial responsibility for the health, welfare and Special Educational Needs of students accessing Student Support, supported by the wider team.

The purpose of the Student Support team is to provide key support for the learning and welfare of all students.  Members of the team are usually based at one site. The team is led by the Deputy Headteacher who works across both campuses. Each site comprises of Family Liaison Manager, Mental Health Support Worker, School Nurse (across both sites), counsellor(s) and, including this appointment, a Student Support Receptionist.

The Support Staff at Weald of Kent make a strong contribution to Students’ learning and achievement. Support Staff provide highly effective support and create additional capacity to Teachers, enabling them to make effective use of their time, professional knowledge, skills and understanding.

Accountabilities:

  • Provide a professional, efficient administrative service, with a ‘right first time mentality’ and minimal errors.

  • Bring about, monitor and evaluate an administrative culture that will bring positive benefits to student learning.

  • Be responsible for your own professional development and accountable through the school’s performance development system.

  • Create, maintain and facilitate effective relationships.

 

Specific Duties:

  • To deliver an effective reception service for the team, dealing with incoming telephone calls, e-mails, internal and external enquiries from Local Authority Agencies.

  • To provide administrative support and maintain information systems.

  • To provide an effective enquiry service for staff and students within the school.

  • To liaise with school staff regarding families and students as necessary.

  • Be the first point of contact for First Aid; recording, administration, monitoring and procurement.

  • Responding to Emergency Alerts including physical, mental and social well-being.

The School will also carry out a check of the Children's Barred List on the successful applicant. This role is also exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the School is therefore permitted to ask shortlisted applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are "spent" unless they are "protected" under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.
