Are you up for the challenge, to put Music at the very heart of Westwood Academy culture?
An opportunity has arisen to be part of shaping the cultural future of all of our pupils. If you are a teacher and leader with drive, flair and innovation then you are the right person to build on the strengths of this successful department and take us into the next phase of our whole school improvement journey.
The music department has long been a strength of the curriculum offer at Westwood Academy, with a history of outstanding results and excellent musicianship, music is a very popular subject in the school. By being a central part of the next phase of our school development, we want this role to build on past successes and grow music provision even further, through exciting extra-curricular work alongside creative curriculum developments.
We are a school that celebrates success and our pupils have had notable success in the past, winning prestigious competitions and taking part in many high quality public performances. We have strongly developed links with The University of Warwick and are involved in the planning of cultural events as part of the Coventry City of Culture programme. We very much see this post as being part of the opportunities offered at city wide level.
If you have good organisational skills, are a team player with energy, verve and a commitment to making Music at Westwood Academy the very best it can be, then this is the job for you.
The Westwood Academy offers the best of all school environments. Our strengths include
· A small, community school which has a supportive, family feel and yet has the highest expectations of our wonderful staff and pupil team
· Exceptionally strong relationships between staff and pupils
· CVA outcomes in 2017 of +0.22 for Progress 8 (+0.44 for disadvantaged pupils)
· An excellent reputation in the local community
· A stunning environment in which to work
· Always outward facing we are undertaking EEF based research and working with a local collaborative of schools to raise achievement further for all pupils in Coventry
· A strong professional development programme at all levels of the organisation with teaching and learning at the heart of what we do
· An academic curriculum which continues to be enriched by sport, the creative arts and around 30 different clubs and societies
· Pupils who love to come to school and are proud of The Westwood Academy
In our recent OfSTED inspection (October 2017) we were graded ‘good’ and our journey towards outstanding was noted. Recently, the governing bodies of The Westwood Academy and the prestigious Kenilworth School passed resolutions to come together to form a Multi-Academy Trust (KMAT) and so you will be joining us at the start of this exciting journey. In addition, you will be joining a team made up of staff who have been working with us for 40 years through to new teachers to the profession.
We are happy to consider applications from candidates whatever your career stage. We have a reputation for ‘promoting early’ and so applications will also be welcome from practitioners who are relatively new to the profession but can show evidence of outstanding potential to lead; we will be committed to growing you into this critical role.
