Job overview

Winner of an SSAT Educational Outcomes Award for 2015, The Macclesfield Academy is a successful and expanding 11-16 school serving a diverse community in South Macclesfield.    The Academy opened in 2011 with a mission to make a distinctive contribution to the provision of secondary education in Macclesfield by becoming an outstanding small school characterised by:

• a welcoming community,

• a personalised curriculum and

• an enriched experience for all our students.

The Academy has become the school of choice for many Macclesfield families and was oversubscribed in 2017 and 2018. Such is the popularity of the Academy that we have agreed to increase our intake (for one year only) from 120 to 144 in September 2019.  In a recent parental survey, 96% of parents said they would recommend the Academy to a friend as a good school for their son or daughter.

We require for 1st September 2019:

We are looking to appoint a full time, permanent Creative, Dynamic and Inspiring Subject Leader for Performing Arts who can teach Music to GCSE who is fully committed to the aims and values of the Academy.

The Performing Arts are a vibrant part of this curriculum and of the life of the Academy as a whole.  Success rates at GCSE Music and Drama are exceptional.  Our concerts and productions are memorable community events and Music, Dance and Drama feature large in our enrichment programme and our work with our partner primary schools.  The subject team consists of two full time teachers and a part time assistant.  Other teachers (including me!) contribute to the teaching of drama.

This vacancy arises because of the retirement of Mr Dave Rodgers after almost two decades of inspirational leadership of music at the Academy and our predecessor schools.

This post will be paid on the leadership spine in the range L4-L8.  Further details are available on the Academy website (www.macclesfieldacademy.org).

If you have any questions about Performing Arts at the Academy, please email Dave on dave.rodgers@macclesfieldacademy.org and he will be pleased to help.

Application is by the Academy standard application form (or the TES generic form) which includes a supporting statement demonstrating how you meet the requirements for the post.  The deadline for applications is 9.00am on Monday 20th May 2019.   Interviews are scheduled for the 23rd May 2019.

Applications for this post must be accompanied by the Equal Opportunities and Confidential Information forms and sent by email only to: TMArecruitment@macclesfieldacademy.org .

Curricula vitae or open testimonials will not be considered.
