Job overview

Where better to lead PE and games than at our campus, bordered by the River Alne, at the heart of the historic forest of Arden? Our beautiful, green-field site (including vast football and rugby pitches, a dedicated netball court, and our well-equipped, specialist sports gymnasium) is the perfect environment in which to nurture students’ learning in PE. We’re fortunate that our medieval, market-town location means we attract motivated and enthusiastic students from across Solihull, South Warwickshire and Worcestershire.

We can’t wait to read letters of application from experienced teachers of boys’ PE and games who are seeking promotion, or from current subject leaders looking to join our popular and supportive school. If successful, you will lead two female, and one other male colleague in your department, and as PE sits within the Faculty of Physical Sciences, you will benefit from joining a large team of supportive colleagues. PE is enthusiastically embraced by the whole staff community here, with colleagues in other faculties coordinating our extra-curricular Equestrian Club, and another leading on the Duke of Edinburgh's Award. As we’re a Directly Licensed Centre for the awards, experience of leading, or supporting expeditions with our Head of DofE (or an enthusiasm to do so in the future!) would be an advantage.

The school has a thriving programme of competitive extra-curricular opportunities, and the successful candidate will be committed to building further on the current opportunities students enjoy – for example, recent international opportunities in Sri Lanka (netball) and in Italy and Austria (Skiing). We would now like to focus on developing further boys’ local fixtures in Football and Rugby to include greater competitive opportunities in boys’ PE locally, regionally and internationally.

Supporting you in your career is a key priority for us. All colleagues have access to co-coaching development opportunities, and we are delighted to be able to offer access to National College leadership programmes through our Teaching School partnerships, including NPQML and NPQSL, further supporting your leadership journey.

Visits are welcome (and encouraged!) so that you may see for yourself why Ofsted recently reported that our thriving students have ‘…good attitudes to their work and are well behaved’ and so that you may see for yourself why inspectors recognised that here, ‘pupil attainment remains high and above national averages…[and] pupils make good progress across a wide range of subjects’ (November 2017).

The closing date for applications is Monday 22 January 2018 at 12 midday and interviews will likely take place w/b Monday 22 January.

This post is not suitable for Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs) and as the teaching commitment for this post will be in boys’ PE, this opportunity is open to male applicants only.

Henley-in-Arden School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and it expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Successful candidates will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS including a Children’s Barred List check.
