Job overview

Required for April or September 2024 an enthusiastic and well qualified teacher of French to lead and manage this subject specialism within our highly successful Languages Department. The person appointed will be expected to teach across the age and ability range up to and including A Level and the International Baccalaureate. 


In 2023, students achieved GCSE result of 9-7 32%, 9-4 65%, 9-1 98%.  A Level results *A-B 75% *A-E 100%.  IBH 7-5 60%, 7-3 100%, IBS 7-5 50%, 7-3 100%.


This is an ideal opportunity for someone who would like experience of leadership and management within a large Languages department. 


The languages Department have a national reputation as part of the NCLE Lead Hub School, working in partnership with UCL, Goethe-Institut and the British Council to develop transformational teaching and learning of languages and to improve provision and outcomes for linguists in 7 partner schools.


All members of staff working at the school support the international aims and ethos of the school and participate in the extensive visits programme. This includes French exchanges to Dinan, Paris, Lyon, Biarritz and Avignon including our International work experience exchanges in Paris.

About Anglo European School

Anglo European School is a 11-19, co-educational comprehensive school situated in Ingatestone, Essex. It has approximately 1,415 students.

The school was opened in 1973 after the closure of a secondary modern school led locals to campaign to keep the school open and the Local Authority, Essex, decided to establish a school with a “European Dimension”.

Anglo European School serves local needs but also draw students from across Essex and parts of London. In 1977 it became the first UK state school to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma and in 1995 the first comprehensive school to become a specialist Language college. In 2005 the school established the first co-headship model in a state secondary school.

As a centre of excellence for language learning, the school offers Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian and Spanish as well as English as an Additional Language and Latin.  Up until age 16 all students study two languages other than English.

In the sixth form, students must study one language. They have a choice of A-levels or an opportunity to study the International Baccalaureate Diploma. There is also the chance to study selected parts of the IB Diploma with A-levels. In addition, the International Baccalaureate Career Programme provides an internationally recognised vocational qualification.
