We are looking for a Subject Leader of Music in a new school which offers excellent opportunities for professional development.  Ada Lovelace Church of England High School is a new 6FE local comprehensive school for pupils aged 11-18.  The school opened in September 2018 and currently has a smaller intake (of 125 Year 7 students) for its first two years whilst co-located at William Perkin CE High School in Greenford.  This figure increases to 196 students per year group when the school moves to its permanent site in Ealing.  William Perkin, an Ofsted Outstanding school, is one of four Twyford Trust schools, and the new post-holder will be joining us at a time of growth; the organisation therefore offers exciting development opportunities and good promotion prospects for motivated and energetic teachers who support the ethos of the Trust.  

The new post-holder will be an enthusiastic Musician who is a strong classroom practitioner with a commitment to achieving the highest standards both academically and in terms of musical engagement.  The school is part of a Trust which places a very strong emphasis on Music and has established routines for whole school singing and for ‘wider opportunities’-style instrumental teaching (which currently forms the basis of the Music lessons in Years 7 & 8).  As a member of a Church of England Trust, the school also sees Music as providing an essential strand of SMSC and we have an in house team of peripatetic staff supported by a Head of Music Specialism and music administration team who will support the Subject Lead with the wider learning offer.  The ideal candidate will be ambitious to develop music at the school and will be enthused by the prospect of leading and managing others to achieve common goals.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A good degree and Qualified Teacher Status
  • Ability to teach Music to GCSE 
  • Ability to lead & enthuse students in whole school singing
  • Working knowledge of appropriate specialist ICT (e.g. Cubase /Sibelius)
  • An understanding of recent curriculum / learning developments
  • An infectious enthusiasm for music and skills in performance / leading ensembles
  • An understanding of the processes and techniques required to assess, record and report students’ learning effectively
  • Ability to be reflective and driven towards self-improvement
  • Energy, creativity and commitment to extra-curricular activities and events

About Ada Lovelace Church of England High School

Ada Lovelace Church of England High School is the newest school in the Twyford CE Academies Trust having moved into its brand-new permanent site in north Ealing in September 2020. The school has now reached full capacity, educating just over 1050 students across years 7 to 13. Ada Lovelace is named after the Victorian pioneer of computing and has a specialism in Digital Technologies which has led to the launch of T-levels at the school in Digital Production, Design and Development as well as Laboratory Science. A new T-level in Accounting will be offered from 2025. Being part of the top-performing Multi-Academies Trust in the UK has enabled Ada Lovelace to achieve outstanding GCSE results with a Progress 8 score of +1.33 in 2023 and +1.4 in 2024. Whilst the school has a strong Christian ethos, its admissions policy is open rather than faith-based and the school is heavily oversubscribed.
