We seek an enthusiastic and innovative PE practitioner to lead Therfield’s vibrant and forward-looking department.  We see this an exciting opportunity for a candidate ready to take the next step in their career in a supportive team and school.  The ideal candidate will be flexible, dynamic, and able to engage students with their passion for their subject.  The successful applicant will be expected to lead the department across the full span of curriculum provision – Core PE at KS3 and 4, GCSE PE, A-level PE, as well as BTECs at KS4 and 5 – as well as maintaining a varied, engaging, and appropriate extra-curricular programme.

The department is well resourced and the school has, in particular, a significant outside space that many schools no longer have – including fields, astroturf, and Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA).

• Experience of A Level teaching is desirable

• An innovator with drive and determination

Therfield is a rapidly growing successful mixed 11-18 school at the heart of the community where “teachers have high expectations of students, attainment is significantly above the national average, students enjoy their learning and are proud of their school.”  Ofsted 2013. Our School Vision and Aims reflect our ethos, which is to strive for the highest possible academic standards in an environment of exciting learning opportunities, where individuals can develop their talents in safe and friendly surroundings. These aims are reflected in our ethos of “Excellence, Leadership, Opportunity.”  Leadership development for staff and students is a key focus of the school and we have a highly positive reputation for staff development.

We are well located for transport links from London, with Leatherhead Station being accessible from both the Waterloo and Victoria lines. The school is a 10 minute walk from the station. Alternatively we are minutes from Junction 9 of the M25.

Therfield is one of the 4 schools in South East England to receive the prestigious National DfE Character Award since they were introduced in 2015.  This award celebrates excellence and diversity in this field, recognising that character is already being encouraged, nurtured and developed alongside academic rigour through a variety of programmes in and outside the school.  This means that the successful candidate will need to be able to deliver high academic standards, but also a commitment to providing outstanding opportunities for all young people to develop the character and resilience they need to succeed in modern Britain.
