The Prospect Trust is a leading Multi-Academy Trust in the South of England, with an aim of providing outstanding education for all learners within a family of local academies. There are currently three academies within the Trust: The Sixth Form College Farnborough, Tomlinscote School and Frimley Church of England Junior School.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Science Department within an outstanding Sixth Form College. We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and well-qualified graduate able to teach Chemistry.

Core Curriculum

We offer the Edexcel A level Chemistry course to approximately 400 students. As a department we are keen to promote independent study outside of lessons through the use of a wide range of in-house and externally generated resources. We also offer a wide range of specialist support for potential medics and vets, and also Oxbridge and university preparation. We have a significant number of students who choose to study Chemistry at undergraduate level. The department has a well established; super curriculum - Chemistry students are presented with the opportunity to stretch themselves through participation in the Cambridge Chemistry Challenge (C3L6), and the RSC Chemistry Olympiad. Students can also undertake more exciting and challenging practical work through the student-run Chemistry society and EPQ projects. The Chemistry department is  currently in the process of leading on the College priority of developing stronger links to STEM careers via the Enthuse Partnership.

The Post of Chemistry tutor:

We are looking for a teacher who displays the following characteristics:

  • Demonstrate a thoughtful and self-reflective approach to pedagogy;
  • Demonstrate excellence in their teaching practice & exhibit a desire to become an outstanding post - 16 classroom practitioner;
  • Enthusiastic about the subject;
  • Excellent ICLT skills that makes learning visible in the classroom;
  • Demonstrate excellent subject knowledge and a further desire to build on this;
  • Enthusiasm in working with 16-19 year old students;
  • Organised but flexible in their approach;
  • Excellent & resourceful team player;
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills 

We welcome applications from ECTs to experienced professionals who may have developed their teaching practice in both 11-19 schools, 16-19 educational institutions in both the state & independent sectors. We are looking for a candidate who recognises the critical importance of developing our students’ literacy and numeracy skills and will implement this as an integral part of their teaching.  We are also looking for a candidate with a proven track record of providing value added.

Since September 2017, The College has been part of The Prospect Trust, a multi-academy trust. The College had originally been a grammar school founded in 1936, becoming a full sixth form college in 1992. The college is co-educational, with over 3900 students aged 16-19. Since its establishment as a sixth form, the college has undergone extensive redevelopment and modernisation, and as a result can boast of a wide range of high-quality teaching and recreational facilities such as a brand-new purpose-built teaching block opened in 2010 containing teaching facilities for physics, electronics and photography among others. Around a third of the students at the college are on mixed programmes of study combining A levels and vocational courses. The college offers 33 A-level courses, with the largest being in psychology and mathematics. Of the 11 vocational courses, the largest are in criminology and business.
